A question of lathering technique

I'm not sure if I saw someone do this, but I received some Proraso Sandalwood and Shea Butter shaving soap today for the first time. I noticed it was on the "soft side". (Maybe from sitting in a USPS mail truck part of the day?). So, I scooped out about a tsp worth of the soap, and mashed it on to the bottom of the shaving bowl, spreading it around. I then just whipped it up with my already soaked brush. Fast and effective is what I would call it. And by the way, that is the most slippery soap on the face that I've used, not that I've used any besides Stirling, Arko, Moon Soap, and TOBS.

So, is it fairly common to scoop soap out of a soap tub, and mash it into a shaving bowl?

very common for softer soaps.always done it that way.builds a nice lather and doesn't contaminate the soap in the tub.hard soaps i lather on the puck.

Prorazo is closer to a 'concentrated' shave cream than a soap. I've always used that one by loading in the bowl, and then face lathering.

If you hear someone talk about the Italian 'croaps,' Prorazo is the poster child for that style of 'cream-soap.' It's normal consistency is about the same as wet clay, or Play-Doh.

Thanks. I just received a tub of RazoRock XXX. It's fairly soft to the touch, too.

For some reason when I think of an Italian shave soap this is the scent that comes to mind. One of my favorites and does have tallow which is even better.

Are most Italian soaps on the "croap side" of hardness?
