Just finished my monthly breakfast with Joe C @JACarbone. We had a nice conversation and enjoyed being served by out beautiful waitress. Great start to the day. Now I am off to LA Fitness for arms, legs and shoulder work. Later, I will shave some time in the afternoon, but I don't have a clue as to what setup will catch my fancy. I may try the new soap that Joe gave me this morning. It's a collaboration with Razor Emporium and PAA and It's called King Rex Emporium. It has a nice clean scent.

I like mixing things up. I won't go for more than 3 days with the same setup. Even during my traditional "Oudtober" month.

I decided to try this soap and the GEM SE blade that was given to me by Joe @JACarbone. Actually, it was a case of GEM blades. The soap is a collaboration with PAA and the Razor Emporium. I normally would not purchase PAA items for personal reasons, but I accept all gifts graciously and use them. I am not a regifter.
    Here's the lather:

    20230621_151226.jpg

The soap is a mild barbershop scent. I don't mind because I can pair it with other barbershop scented aftershaves. The only negative that I had with the soap was that I needed a little extra effort to get the lather up to my standards. It may also be that I didn't use enough soap. However, I still got a nice lather for 2 passes on face and 2 on the dome. Albeit, the lather was very thin when I got to the dome because I didn't have enough soap to start with, but it was enough for me to hit the dome. Next time, I will use a little more soap when I do a head and face shave.

On to my thoughts with the GEM SE blade,it is definitely a sharp blade and wouldn't recommend it to a new wetshaver. I did 2 passes on my face and only needed 2 passes on my dome to get BBS. However, I did get a weep on my neck, chin and stache. Moreover, I got noticeable irritation on my neck.. I attribute it to using the same angle when I had the GEM knockoff blades in the GEM MMOC which are not as sharp. However, I adjusted to a shallower angle for the dome shave and therefore, didn't get any bloodshed, but did get some irritation on the nape. This may be due to the fact that I didn't have a thicker carpet of lather on the dome.

There was definitely major burning from the alum block which I expected giving the amount of irritation on my neck, but not so much on my head which I attribute to adjusting the angle of approach. Splashed on a double portion of the Pinaud-Clubman Classic aftershave and I am good to good. I would rate this shave a B. Take care.

This shave was excellent throughout the entire process.

As usual Joe and I had a nice breakfast with some great conversation. Danny, @Hembree, you need to come up and see Joe in action with our favorite waitress. Suave and debonaire for sure.

Hope you all had a great day.

A comfortable 2 pass + pick ups silky smooth shave with no errors to report. Finishing the shave off with a few small dollops of Aloe Vera Cooling Gel.

Time to try an SE again. Still had a GEM blade I have used 5x previously.

    Hardware: Multi razor setup
Razor 1: G-bar with GEM (6) felt a bit rough it’s been about a month since I last used this blade, probably just getting a bit dull. A bit average, tuggy, completed the first pass nevertheless. Ditched the blade.
Razor 2: defaulted back to Gillette Rocket HD with a new Gillette Platinum (1) to finish the job. Very nice, this could easily be my “desert island” razor.

    Software: same as usual
Prep and Post: same as usual

    No damage, smooth and refreshed.

Definite adaptation needed to find the right cutting angle, also the G-bar is a bit bulky around the area under the nose.

I need to spend more time with the SE razors, might want to dedicate a week or more at some time in the future, preferably with 48 hours or more growth.

One thing I am trying to do differently: After each pass I would normally rinse, either with warm or cold water, and leave the face wet before applying more lather. This has the effect of thinning down the lather with each pass. Now I am rinsing and drying between passes, which keeps the lather from being diluted, the subsequent passes can be completed with much thicker lather.

I scoop more soap than I think I need into the bottom of the bowl. That way if the lather gets too runny I load up more from the bottom/centre of the bowl.
If there is any left I leave it there for night time, then lather up the tallow based soap and apply to my areas of dry skin / eczema. Works a treat.

Have a lovely Thursday and more great shaves

Edit: PS: that number 6 is magnetic, and sticking to the GEM: pretty sure is a GEM Personna SE Stainless PTFE coated I got from Connaughts...does that make sense?
