Case has one small crack in the lid, otherwise everything is in working order. But...yikes. Honestly don't know how it can get this bad. This'll be fun.
Flitz will do a great job of not only polishing the case, but will act as a cleaner. Use a toothbrush to get into harder to reach areas, case and razor.
Soaked the case in Scrubbing Bubbles for 30 minutes, then stiff toothbrushed it under warm running water. The clear styrene doesn't really need polished and the white is perfect. Near-boiled the razor with some Dawn for 30 minutes. Toothbrushed clean while very warm, dried, then Flitz. Now there's just a bit of staining left in the knurling that I'll need a brass brush to get out, if it will come out. All that's left is to blacken the numbers with a Sharpie. It's a '61, btw.
Beautiful cleanup! How did you happen upon this little cream puff? '61 is my birth year, BTW. I'm all about making things born in that year look newer. I'm currently giving the Scrubbing Bubbles and Dawn treatment with a brass brush/Sharpie touch-up serious consideration.
Browsing for old carbon blades, it popped up on the feed. I had to rub my eyes to make sure I was seeing what I saw. I told the seller it would take some work to get it in proper condition, so would they accept an offer? She did, possibly because it was so disgusting.
Seriously, if you never rinsed the handle of your razor, just laid it up coated with whatever suds were left on it, how long would take to build up a layer of scum, dead cells, stubble, and whatever else is in there? I wouldn't think it's possible but this is the 2nd one I've seen like this (the first, a flare tip, was worse). Tell you what, I'd hate to see that guy's toothbrush.
I'm sure all of you are aware the toothbrush was invented in West Virginia. Had it been invented anywhere else, it would have been called a teethbrush.
Great job! But rather than a sharpie, I use Testor’s enamel to blacken numbers on razors. It’s darker & more durable.
Fantastic! I clean any razor I use with a tooth brush and dish soap after every use. I found that if it's gonna clean up more than the initial cleaning, it gets better and better as I use it and clean it. You did a great job tp
Not really, they would have if in parts of USA New England using older English called it a Teethpolisher/Toothpolisher because of what some in the area still call Toothpaste, Toothpolish. In parts of Canada, it would be the same as New England Same as in parts of England that still use the old words, parts of Ireland/Northern Ireland, or most of South Africa.
This could have been in a fire somehow, like in a house, the person who collected the item probably found a case without a shaver for cheap because the cases are not really the same just Era specific. My adjustable slim handle with case is a white case but it is the version made for the longer shaver that is same mold parts used for early Super Adjustable just those used blue plastic with the words Super added to the logo in a sticker or etched in then gold name added and a part on the cover was modified to fit the extra 4 mm. From what I have seen on e-Bay as the Adjustable slim handle case would fit a Super Adjustable regular if one modified the cover on the bottom end just a hair to fit the shaver. Only Super Adjustable made after 1970 had a new case specifically for that model and the then longer version of Super Adjustable 109 (109 mm handle) that was a longer version of shaver the Gillette had for the market in late 1970, a Gillette Christmas tactic. Yes, both standard and long models were made at the same time until the longer version was the only model made in 1980/1981 and after because the Safe-T-Shaver was dying in favor of the Astra II and Twin Trac II models at the time and the Shick Glide models of 2 blades so Gillette people only made the more popular shaver.
