  1. 21 Jul 2023 Sticking with the Gillette Rubie for a bit more

48 hours stubble... pre work shave

    21 Jul 2023 Rubie_Lupo.jpg

Prep = usual HWS + Proraso white
Cream = TOBS Jermyn street collection
    Brush = Plissoft synthetic
Razor = Razorock lupo, appears to have more blade exposure than some of my other razors, trialling a different handle for each pass
Blade = Gillette Rubie (1) ---> nice and smooth
Face lathered today with the synthetic
3 passes + touch ups for a smooth error free result

Pass 1 = standard handle (Aluminium? = 22 gram) very light, bit smooth but alum improved the grip. Handle and razor really too light for a two day growth
Pass 2 = heavier gold coloured handle (Brass I think, = 69 gram), much better balance, better weight on the head, better grip, good balance. I will keep this one
Pass 3 = Very heavy checkered handle (98 grams!!) but too thick, too heavy with poor balance for finer buffing. I will heave this one overboard..

Post shave = Cold water rinse, slight alum feedback tells me I did good >>> cold water rinse >>> Thayers >>> Brut ASL

Scent = Guerlain pour homme EdP
Overall good result, no damage, nice and smooth

Have a lovely Friday wherever you may be...

DE Shave # 474 - Travel Shave - Game Day

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Yaqi Traveler
    Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
    Brush: Ever Ready 200T
    Lather: Arko
    Aftershave: Stirling Satsuma
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum
    Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

Very nice shave stick shave this morning. The Arko provided a slick medium for the blade to do its work. The one thing that I have not about the Arko is that it does tend to dry out my face during use therefore this would not be a soap that I would venture into consecutive or a focus shave routine. It is not anything that a good balm cannot rectify.

Hope you all have a get day. #LGM

  11. Awesome Arko shave Joe. I agree that it does dry the skin, but it's not bad enough for me to use a balm.

  12. Joe, thanks. It was worth trying

Cool arko shave stick holder Joe. Agree with the comment about the Arko drying out the skin

Thanks Joe. Wouldn't send the handle to any respectable den! It's a rough enough cheapie that somehow came my way.

This is the last day for shaving with this razor. I have to say that this is a darn good shaver. It's a mild, but efficient razor. I think if I was going to shave with a 2 day growth, then I would use a fresh blade or a Feather with this razor. It also was my last use with this blade because it was showing a little tugginess. This soap has a very mild, pleasant barbershop scent. This is PAA's Kokum Butter formula. It provides a slick, creamy lather as you can see:

This was a 3 pass shave without errors and a BBS result.
The alum feedback was slight. Splashed on the Old Spice aftershave to finish this session.
