Gillette fat boy and black beauty question, tension spring

Discussion in 'Safety Razors' started by ManualFIlmUser, Oct 31, 2023.

  1. have a fat boy and a black beauty gold christmas model.

The christmas gold model the blade tension spring is definitely not functioning correctly. As I dont use it often, just for christmas morning.. it took a while to notice that the extra 1/4 turn doesnt create tension but it shaves fine.

Today shaving with my fatboy, a year that the bottom plug in handle twists out, i realized that the extra 1/4 turn for tension is not working. And in fact, while it is set on 5, it feels like i am shaving with my Milord in terms of gap...

Do i just need to give them a new clean?Or do i need to just stop worrying about things as i have had an increase in carpal tunnel issues lately.

yours could be seized. I soaked my sa 84,fatboy, and slim in a bowl with dawn and boiling water from a kettle..repeated a few times.the lockdown turn on all 3 work very nicely.

[Edited] Sorry, just realized you have a different version of the Fatboy than I do, so my posting about resolution wouldn't apply. Yep, agree with the recommendation to clean and hopefully that's the only thing it needs. Good luck!

This works almost every time, unless there is something broken.
Hot soapy water, soak, repeat, until unstuck.

Steaming it in a vegetable steamer on your stovetop will steam clean it and loosen up any buildup that's inside. It also protects it from the direct heat of the stoves burner.

You don't need to boil it, in a pot. Just boil the water, enough to cover the razor, remove from heat, add a squirt of Dawn or Palmolive, stir, add razor, and let it sit, until cool. The soap breaks down a lot of crusty deposits. Then use an old toothbrush, and scrub. Repeat if needed. I usually microwave the water, until it just starts to bubble. Remove the razor before micro waving (some need this told to them).
