Hello. Just joined. I've heard that a vintage gillette razor would be better than the Van Der Hagen I've been using. So many choices. Which would you recommend? Thank you very much.
i prefer vintage gillettes.most are mild to medium shavers like your VDH,but tend to be a bit heavier and more solidly made.welcome to the den.
DE SOTD, Saturday, January 6 2024 Razor : Gillette Fatboy E4 adjustable- Mfg 1959, all ranges. Well built adjustable with a Nickel coated over brass. Bought this at a thrift store for $20 Canadian years ago and was very happy with shave results it offers. Had a close comfortable shave this morning. Blade : Gillette Perma-sharp(4) sharp and smooth with reasonable longevity. Top tier blade. Soap : Yaqi Musketeer Rapier nice scented soap (dub of Aramis classic cologne scent) with excellent lather qualities. Brush : Yaqi "Lucky dice" 26mm Tuxedo knot, Excellent lather generator, cloud like soft tips, nice splay scrubber + excellent lather painter. Nice brush and handle is great for large hands. Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area. Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG(7) + ATG(7) + pickups (setting 9). Post shave : Yaqi musketeer Rapier (very addictive scent)+ a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless). Results : or CCS,DFS,BBs + no irritation + no weepers= Had a close comfortable shave this morning with my Gillette Fatboy adjustable with a Gillette Perma-sharp. Have some great shaves!
Would Gillette Fatboy E4 adjustable be good razor for me to try? Can I still pay $20? Thank you very much.
It would be a great razor to try,though not sure about $20 any more.a vintage 1960's slim adgustable is just as good and more plentiful,lower prices.
