Dscosmetics X2 stainless steel razor head. Timeless Razor Crown Titanium handle. Astra SP blade (fresh). Yaqi 24mm synthetic brush. Fine Accoutrements Fresh Vetiver shave soap. Timeless Razor shave bowl. Irish Chestnut by Andy Hilfiger. Awesome shave this morning. It have been a busy weekend getting everything ready for the cold weather we have on the way to Alabama......20 degrees tonight and 12 degrees tomorrow night. I know that is not cold for our northern friends but for us boys in the south it is cold. Anyway....plenty of firewood, antifreeze is checked and water pipes are covered. We will make it. Stay warm everyone!
Great shave and pic Terry. I appreciate whenever you post. Happy New Year and all the best to you and your family.
Very pleased with my shave this morning. I do think I am adapting(slowly)to going lighter with each shave stroke. No cuts, Knicks, Polka Dots. Or maybe the Stoylin soap helps one go soft with each stroke(if that makes sense). Nice clean fresh work alongside the face&neck. Actually I did miss that usual spot, but took care of it later. From the jawline going South(Cactus Nation), I've been mixing the blade direction. Some video freax I see do that too-the go all over the map instead of one solid direction. They do that while admionistering the soap onto the face and neck too. Anyone who watches my shave of late would throw up their hands and say "Will ya make up your mind, BUDDEH"? But I'd say that's what wet-shaving is, you go all over the map. Two passes. Super Duper Outstanding.
Looks outstanding, and your ornamentation definitely states "Southern Den". Do we get a sand dollar tomorrow
Beautiful pic and enjoy the cold. If it's any consolation, your lows are close to my highs this week....
January 15 SOTA Good afternoon. Van der Hagen TTO Gillette Wilkinson Sword DE Blade (final, 1) Omega Pro 49 Boar Brush TSD Irish Spring SS and AS Stirling Alum Block Modessa Witch Hazel Beard Growth: 28.5 hrs Dome Turf: 3 days Did a head and face shave. Did 3 passes on my face plus pickups and did my initial shave on the dome but decided to finish the headshave with a fresh razor blade for the remaining two passes. There wasn't any blood loss so that's always a plus. As I mentioned earlier, I will load from the TSD pucks because it is easier. The soap is so slippery that I can't press it into the bowl because it moves, etc. It needs plenty of water so the lather is not thick, however, it is slick for doing a shave. The alum feedback was negligible in all areas. Splashed on the witch hazel to tone down my skin. Applied the matching aftershave to end the shaves. Take care.
Nice Joe! I can’t believe you still have a VDH razor. I picked up that set many years ago. The blades were terrible but the razor was nice. It disappeared under circumstances I can’t recall anymore…
Thanks Scott. I started wetshaving in July '18 when I bought the VdH razor. I replaced it with this current one because the original fell apart. Soap got in the handle and it was difficult to open the doors. I boiled the razor to unlock that razor. It was a short time later that the real disaster came and it needed to be thrown out. The VdH blades were OK for me, but I knew there were better blades so I waited until I got my first decent safety razor and that was the Rockwell 6C. I ordered a 100 Rockwell blades and they also were fine; but definitely better than the VdH. The next few months, I got my Dovo shavette and then my first true straight razor which was the Dovo Special. That's the short version of my first 5 months in wetshaving. Btw, I have a MicroTouch One TTO which is a rebranded VdH.
