I am interested in acquiring my first shavette. What model should I buy?

    Focus R28 aluminum.
I like mine better than any of my other shavettes or any of my straight razors.

Feather Artist Club SS is a good one to start with IMO. The blades are more expensive than DE blades but will last a bit longer too.

The Tedalus Essence is way overpriced at 380 dollars. Yes, I know that it can take different blades and it has been stated that it feels like a regular straight. However in my opinion, I wouldn't pay no more than 40 dollars for a shavette. I would not recommend a Parker shavette to a novice because the ends of the razor are not covered and the chance of cutting yourself is great. It's a good shaver once you get your technique down. The Weck Sextoblade has guards to minimize cuts, but getting a decent one is difficult to find. I learned with a Dovo Shavette. The toe ( front edge) is covered and you can use DE blades snapped in half or Personna Hairshaper Blades. The Hairshaper Blades are very sharp so I wouldn't use them until you master this razor. It's a difficult razor for some because it is lightweight. Good luck.

I asked him for more details and since he didn't reply I went ahead and gave some general options. Yes tedalus essence is high priced , but , he didn't give a price range. Yes I put the parker because he didn't state whether he may have used straights before or anything.. Finally I put the weck because with the guard it is basically a straight with training wheels.. Thanks for your input to the OP with your thoughts and concerns of the 3 I posted... I guess he could get an Artist Club with guarded blades ,but, without knowing Anything more than he initially put we are all flying blind and guessing his wants... One of my first was the Weck as it also uses the hair shaper blades which are often considered more forgiving by some due to them being more rigid and with the guard generally safer. There are actually plenty available on the bay when I looked before I made my original post and surprisingly most still had the guard and were not really that pricey.... Well good luck to OP with whatever he decides....

Alex I don't have any experience with other shavettes than the wecksexto and I have to say it's a damn good shaver and it would serve you well. That's coming from a straight razor guy
