  1. Good perspective, Barry. Some folks seek the perfect (and mostly elusive) BBS shave or feel they are missing out. I'll take a close, comfortable shave without irritation any day. Friends and family likely won't notice or care if our shaves are perfect or not. A decent shave looks fine to most people, especially when I am of good humor in their company.

We were staying with some friends awhile back. I commented one morning that I need to shave before the day got started. I had a day's worth of stubble at the time. My friend asked me what I was going to shave off since my face appeared to be clean-shaven already. :)
  2. was i even conversing with you on this point?it was a message to Chris..
  3. ohhhhhhh...ok..sorry. so it was Chris you were talking to about electric razors???

    Good morning.

    Straight Razor Shave #539
    7/8 J A Henckels Friodur
    JR #290 Cashmere Brush
Seaforth Spice Lime SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Personal Care Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 1 day

I went with an old-fashioned straight razor shave. For this task, I chose my Friodur. I always get a fine shave with this vintage razor and today was no exception. An error-free 3 pass shave gave me a nice BBS shave. I took my time to enjoy this shave.
I felt like a Sea Captain so I went with the Seaforth Spice Lime. It is a lovely scent and lathers well. Here's my lather:

I had very little alum feedback. Applied the witch hazel and the matching aftershave. I really enjoyed this morning’s shave. Take care.

  8. :happy096:absolutely.i get the "perfect" bbs from time to time, but 90% of my shaves are "near" bbs as one could call it,2 passes ,a bit of touch up and done.there is always a bit of fine stubble on my lower neck as i dare not over do it there.i would rarely pass a cotton ball test, but the funniest part,i haven't had one person say,"that's a close shave you've got there":D.but seriously,i am totally happy with my shave results that i learned here at TSD,.from a weekly drudge to a daily zen moment, only in 7 short years..;)
  9. close comfy shave for the win.:):eatdrink047:,and the coolest part..using 70-100 year old shaving equiptment to do it with.;):happy093::bounce015:

  17. It is the old saying don't chase the BBS, but let the BBS chase you. It's a great philosophy. My BBS shaves are technically not because they wouldn't pass the cotton ball test. I would be close, but I would fail if graded by a barber license examiner. That's why I distinguish between BBS and cotton ball BBS shave. Honestly, the best shave is irritation and leakage free while looking clean shaven. The minimal standard should be DFS (damn fine shave).
