  3. Thank you Joe. The 7o'clock along with Astra Superior Platinum where amongst the first de blades when I first started out because I liked the design on the tuck covers. Both are good all round blades.

  4. Well said.. That's one of the main reasons I why shave only four days a week. I actually look forward to my shaves with this routine.

  5. I thought you were from Long Island, Joe. :D

I've always had a fairly light beard. These days, though, it is mostly gray and coarse...not a great look after a couple of days, IMO.

  7. I've been working with my new-to-me Schick Krona this month, and it has been a joy to shave with...well except for one shave.

I began with a Treet razor and got some beautiful shaves in, the best I've ever had actually! But then I got a little cocky I think, and went with a Feather blade, and wow, I hacked myself up pretty good. Cuts and irritation and a lot more touching up then I would have expected. The alum block stung that day!

Well, I just shaved with a Lord blade and yeah, it was great. Just like the Treet really. So maybe I'm not ready for a Feather ((I'm a bit of a newb) or the Krona is a mild razor that does best with a milder blade. Not sure yet. But I have a bit of a fear of Feathers now. When I started, I thought sharpest blade had to be the best blade, but that's become a hard NO! Live & learn.

I'll keep experimenting though. The Krona is one heck of a comfortable razor though!

(Hope this the right forum for this?)
  8. Hi Old Spice, I want to welcome you to this thread. This is the place to ask questions about shaving technique, soaps, razors and blades. Oh, brushes, pres-shaves and aftershaves, too. We are a pretty close-knit group so we usually go by our first names. I'm Joe and again welcome to this thread. One more thing, if you haven't already, please go to the first page of this thread and read the intro ( first post ) to get an idea what this thread is about.

  9. Thanks for the welcome Joe. The name here is Jim.

I did read the first post and I think I'm in the right place. I wasn't sure how to jump into this thread because like you said, everyone seems pretty tight here. Anyway, I think someone can help me with blades here, as that's my biggest question as of now. Sharpness, stainless, coated, carbon, how to clean/don't clean etc. It can get confusing.

As for after shave, I think you know what I like!:D
  10. Feathers are considered the most unforgiving blade. Kai blades are just a shade below Feathers. Newbies should stay away from them until they master their technique. Treats, Lord's and Derby blades are considered mild. Astra Greens, Gillette 7 o'clock and Gillette Wilkinson Sword are in the mid aggression range. Obviously, there are others, but I gave what I consider the most well-known blades. I recommend to get a sample pack of different brands of blades to try. I would just use one tuck of blades to get a feel for it before moving on to the next one. Make a little journal and note what you like or didn't like about a particular brand. Do this for each tuck of blades. When you are finished with these blades, you can go back and see which blades are right for you.
