The LaToja Shaving Stick lathered well with the Semogue 1305 boar Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Gillette Techmatic Razor and the Techmatic Band blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Aqua Velva Musk After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

I went on an eBay spree and ended up with 5 vintage Gillette razors (well, just two purchases and one was by mistake, forgot to retract an offer…) Not too much money so no heartburn.

The haul included some surprises.

1) 1962 (H1) Slim Adjustable. Finish pretty worn but in great working condition.
2) 1962 (H2) Slim Adjustable. After cleanup it’s in a surprisingly good condition, with a small cloudy spot on one of TTO doors, and some finish danage on the underside of bottom plate where nobody sees it. Otherwise pretty shiny overall. This was the razor I was primarily after.

3) 1967 Black handle super speed. Looked really beat up in the photo, ended up being extremely dirty but practically intact once clean.

4) This was a surprise - what I assumed was a second Superspeed, while glancing at a grainy photo, ended up being a 1972 Super 84 adjustable, in a really good condition.

5) A flare tip Superspeed, still on its way.

So, here’s the 2nd shave with the H2 date code Slim and a Russian Astra SP (4).

nice slim ,good scores.i must admit,while i'm not a fan of the black razors,they are nice shavers,i love my 1971 super 84. comfy bbs shaves every time so far.my birth year/quarter m-4 ss flare tip shaves nice as well.

This short handle Super adjustable felt a lot better / more efficient than my long handle Super 109. With gaps being the same, I can only attribute this to the shorter handle making it much easier for me to keep the right angle. I do find the 109mm adjustable a bit difficult to use, the top heavy balance combined with lightweight long thin handle make a weird combo for me. The 84mm felt just right.

awesome.my ultimate shave with my 84 is with an early 70's gillette spoiler blade..gillette's last hurrah..

I thought old Gillette blades would become rough? Or does it only apply to the carbon steel ones.

1967 Superspeed with Permasharp (1)

This was my best overall vintage Gillette shave to date. Mild, efficient, not very sensitive to the shaving angle. Did manage to scratch my throat with an exposed blade tab, but that’s just me being careless.

I honestly did not expect that. I assumed 60’s Gillettes were mild and angle-sensitive. My 1960 Tech is so mild I am having problems using it, end up with irritation chasing BBS. The 1953 Superspeed (“40’s style”) is efficient but can be “angry”, leaving the skin a little tender after a shave. This one is smack in the middle. Very reassuring. Since my birthday razor (L3) would have been produced just 2 quarters earlier than this one , I assume it should shave very similarly, so I may start looking at getting one.

only the gillette blue blades.anything stainless 1963 or newer are usable and really good if they were stored reasonable well.
these are awesome.early 70's..

very cool.i believe the black handle was first produced in 1966 as well as the regular ss,(i have an L-2 ss)you should find an l-3 no problem.love my m-4 shave wise.
