1. So I’m a long time lurker on the forum and I thought I’d say hello from the UK.

I love the forum - such a useful, friendly resource. Keep it up guys, great work.

I’ve been using DE razors, new and old, for a few years now, as well as an Ever Ready/Personna combination from time to time. I originally crossed over from the quattro’s that I grew up with because I wanted to cut down on plastic wherever I could. Started out with a new Merkur 34C which now gathers dust.

As time has gone on, I’ve become more and more interested in the craftsmanship and aesthetic of the early twentieth century razors. Such beautiful things! My daily driver is now an early open comb Aristocrat. Love it.

So much so, that I’ve just pulled the trigger on a 7 day Heljestrand lather catcher set that’s now on its way from Spain. Can’t wait, assuming no nasty surprises when it arrives.

Going to get the wedge blades honed by a professional, and give them a try. If I get on with them, I’ll stick with them rather than using the Personna’s that many favour on the lather catchers. Something about the lifetime investment/single purchase thing from a bygone era that appeals to me.

I’ll attach a couple of photos if I can - all/any advice or suggestions welcome. I’m new to the lather catchers so anything I can learn from you guys would be great. particularly if anyone can suggest how to save that Magnus strop… I see some ominous cracks in some of the shots…!

All the best and Merry Christmas to everyone

    Niel

PS - any ideas how to reduce the size of an image from my photo library? I’ve tried to upload some pictures but I get “file too large”

  5. :signs046: Niel from here in western New York. Glad you decided to join us here at TSD. I'm the local brush restoring nut. As to your issue with image size. Open the image then go in to tools on that image and find resize image change it's file size to less than a 1M and it should be fine.

    :)

  14. Hi Jayaruh
That's quite a collection you have there
I'm having trouble finding anyone in the UK that's prepared to hone them for me. Do you hone yours yourself, or send them to someone?
