Love the el-cheapo Dollar Tree razor. Looks like the same one I have, well I have two, one Gillette and the other Rapira. Finely engineered shaving tools, well maybe not. But....in the hands of a pro, they work!

Super Sunday shave Joe. Unfortunately, there will not be a Super Sunday for our NY Giants and Jets this year.

Thank you for the compliment Neal. There are many things that I have learned over the years:

    First, mapping one's beard.

Second, properly prep your beard. In my case, I just use plenty of water via my shave brush.

Third, take your time making a rich, creamy and slick lather. Also, know that different soaps and creams will take different amounts of water to get a great lather.

Fourth, razor/ blade combinations will always feel different. IOW, a razor/ blade may not mesh with your beard and skin type so try another blade to see if the shave feels much better.

Fifth, you don't always have to go to the max setting on an adjustable razor. You may be surprised by shaving your beard at a lower setting.

Sixth, Shavette and Straight Razor shaving has taught me to have a light touch that carries over splendidly when I use safety razors.

Seventh, tweaking your technique every so often may give you a better shave. IOW, experiment with your technique, but don't do anything drastic.

Finally, this above all, remember technique trumps tools.

Yes, I know that everyone is well versed in the aforementioned points, but it is worth repeating.

We can never say those things enough. I know my preference for the Russian blades came out of trying every blade I could find. And, when I started with pain sticks, aka Artist Club razors, I learned how much of a difference mastering those made in even a mild DE shave.

Now, as far as going to max settings on adjustables - that's my default setting. But I am one of those people who loves to feel a blade. Call me crazy. LOL

YW....I'm glad to see that you use this in the winter weather. Clubman's Gsnt's Gin is best used in warmer weather.

    Jillette January

    Razor - Gillette Aristocrat
    Blade - gillette-silver-blue.jpg
    Soap - Stirling Iced Coffee
    Brush - Jayaruh JR#312

We're up to the 1940's now, and the first razor up is the '46-'47 Aristocrat. A beauty of a TTO razor. Dating on this one is accurate as it has a center bar with no notch and end caps. Earlier versions did not have the end caps. I purchased this razor from another St. Louis shaving enthusiast on a different forum when I first started exploring. It's always been a prize in my collection that got to spend a bit of time in the Northwest with @Rufus T. back in the early days of the 30DC.

I paired the 'Crat with one of Gillette's best blades, the Silver Blue. I originally had settled on this as my go-to blade in 2014 until I tried Voskhod. They are a close match. In fact, following my first 30 Day Rule 10 years ago, I switched to the GSB at the request of Chris to do a comparison. If Voskhod and Sharp Star suddenly disappeared from the earth I could be happy with this blade for the rest of time.

Soap is Stirling Iced Coffee. Fantastic scent to this one and, even though we have about 8" of snow on the ground, the menthol was refreshing and welcomed. The JR#312 with faux horse knot did a fantastic job of lathering and the looks and feel of this brush match the high quality of the razor, blade, and soap quite well.

Two passes, touch up, and it's a perfect finish. No follow up as I wanted to enjoy the lingering scent of the soap.

Hope you have less snow than we do! Have a great Monday! Mine got better when I got an extra day off due to the snow!

Happy to bring back Ike SS&AS. You know the story with this product-it features a scent that JFK(not Ike, so far as we know anyway)loved.-Eight and Bob. That's why I went for Ike, not the Kennedy. They got th 34th&35h Potuses mixed up, relative to their favorite shaving scents. And now to confusematters more, Nick Shaves says th Kennedy product of Strike Gold Shave contains JFK's fsvorite scent-he didn't say what it was though. I'm left to hoping Kennedy loved another scent besides Eight And Bob.

Now, on to the shave-a minute at the Loading Dock to get a great load of the Ike onto the Italian Barber brush. How's that for a worldy combination-an Italian shaving brush with soap honoring an American President? I'm thrilled to no end at the softness of the soap as it enters my face and neck. No damage anwhere. 2 healthy passes. EightAnd Bob is a classic fragrance. With each set JFK ordered, he would keep Eight and give one to his brother Bob-hence the name. The artisan later caught on and produced one devoted to RFK(Bob)himself. The A.S. has a real small pour spout, but given the choice, small is better. What eventually comes out onto the hand is wonderful. As Outstanding As It Gets.

Troy M Prep: Mephitis mephitis musk

    No pics this morning.
    Prep: shower
    Lather: TOBS Sandalwood
    Brush: No name badger
    Razor: Gillette NEW LC
    Blade: Astra
Post: cool rinse and CC Lime

I deliberately made my lather wetter than normal and was rewarded with a slick and shiny lather. The LC performed just as expected and took down one days growth with 2 easy passes. I’ll keep trying a wetter lather to keep dialing in the slickness.
