Cream/Soap = Lea
Brush = Razorock 400 synthetic
Bowl = white plastic
Razor = Gillette No 66
Blade = Henckels super platinum chrome (2)
Passes = 3
Post = Usual CWR, Alum, rinse, pat dry, Thayer’s rose petal. Nivea post shave balm finally banished to the 3017 pile
ASL = Imperial Leather
Scent = TBS black musk
Score = 9.8 / 10
Damage = none

Superb shave with this lovely although relatively scent free soap. Easily slicked up with the RR 400 and great face feel. The No 66 and vintage Henckels allowed for more multidirectional attacks on the stubble with impunity

March Madness

Talk about March Madness. Last night as I left for work I heard the first spring peepers. Nice cool evening and the frogs are about. This morning on the drive home from work I drove through blowing snow in a gale. Sheesh! Well, the weather is mad, so let's see if the shave can stay a bit more sane.

Switched it up to another Soviet era adjustable, the Consul. This is the knockoff of the Gillette Slim. Similar in appearance, and with larger blade gaps, this razor has given me some decent shaves. We'll see how it handles. I used a fresh Rapira Platinum Lux blade to keep it all Russian on the hardware. Stirling Sheep for mutton tallow and the 30DE custom brush for that wonderful lather. One quirk of this razor is in loading the blade. It doesn't always want to sit down flat when you first load it. Had to fiddle with it a bit to get it flat on the baseplate before closing the doors. Handled.

Two passes and I have to say it was very smooth. A couple of times I felt like there was a quick skip, but I survived both passes with no blood, and not much irritation. I remember when I first obtained this razor it was a bit of a beast to me, but technique has tamed the beast. I may have to do a side by side comparison of the Slim and the Consul at some point to see how they compare. Great way to end my morning before heading off to bed to sleep through the rest of the snow. This time next week it will be 80 degrees. Madness indeed.

Excellent custom straight razor shave this morning. This Drew Dick razor was my first custom blade. It is a beauty and shave exceptionally well.

Gradually working toward the end of the tub. Today I finished off the corresponding aftershave. The den thinning continues slowly but surely.
