I took your advise and went to my local town antique stores and I picked up a red tipped double edge safety razor for $10 (hopefully not a rip off). I also watched all the mantic videos. Now I just need to clean it up a bit and put it to the test!
Nothing wrong with that. The DE will be there for you when you are ready. Took me a couple months after discovering these sites to get to it. Welcome to the site.
That would be a red-tip Superspeed. The Superspeed came in three colors, blue (mild), Chrome or Black (depending on year and average aggressiveness), and Red (aggressive). I wouldn't have made a red tip my first choice as a starter razor, but as long as you're careful to keep the right angle and use NO pressure, it will be just fine. $10 is about right for a Superspeed in good condition. Good Luck!
$10 is a great price for a red tip SS. They are fantastic shavers too, one of my favorites, but I would get your technique down with the other Superspeed before you try it.
Ditto that! $10 for a Red Tip is an excellent deal! They are one the most sought after Gillette Super Speeds out there and many swear by them as providing the best shave. Welcome to the Den!
I cleaned this up and I have been shaving with it for the past few days and it seems to be just fine... I nicked myself once or twice is all so far. I also have a Edwin Jagger new DE on order so I'll get to see the difference in the way the two razors shave. I still need to get a sample pack of blades since I am using the USA Personnas that you can buy anywhere and even though they are working I'm not sure they are the right blades for me.
