back during the first couple of years of this hobby? i had ever-ready se,injectors and others, but had to choose one type or face bankruptcy..so gillettes got the nod for various reasons, namely the amount i had, blade choices available etc..i still went overboard but eventually paired them down..
one could try a Supply Razor with the many available fight club blades i guess.it's just the next step is the gillette guard..back to square one..i kept a couple of the harder to find ones, the g "66" , black and chrome short "I " type and a canadian "e-3"i also still own my brit valet autostrops just because they look cool..:):eatdrink047:gillette in my mind mastered the whole process though, for me and countless other generations for over 100 years..

Monday June 16 (evening) - Jeeves / JTSpartan / Just Do the Basics June plus Menthol Monday

I am doing a declared Rule this month using this setup for every shave:

    IMG_20250602_123322.jpg

(Of course, since I have only been shaving every week or two lately, a Rule is not much of a hardship...)

Prep: Hot shower with Aleppo olive oil and 20% bay laurel oil soap (traditional anti-acne)

Razor: Matte black stainless steel Supply 2.0 injector with "nick-proof" SE comb plate / Supply White Label (house-branded Personna)(4)

Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Street Private Study (later renamed simply "Bay Rum")

Brush: Jason @jtspartan 30DC Limited Edition maple with cashmere synthetic knot

    Lather Bowl: None

Post: rinse, alum, rinse, Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum splash

Last shave: Monday June 2 (morning) - 14.5 days ago

I did my usual two passes with the heavy injector - WTG and then XTG everywhere. A lot of stray whiskers left around the edges of my mouth and especially on my neck. I should have done a third pass ATG on my neck to clean up but decided to leave be at two passes. The only people who will see my face tonight are me and my cat. I will do an early shave tomorrow morning to finish the job.

Alum was silent. The splash contains glycerin and witch hazel for good skin care as well as a light dose of menthol. A pleasant finish to a pleasant even if not thorough shave.

I did quite enjoy it though, because it is the first time I have shaved since March without having my wrist locked in a cast. I could use both hands.

My wrist is not completely healed but is getting there. I was told to leave the cast off so it gets more movement to promote healing now that the bone pieces are at least lightly fixed back in place. So I just have it in a light elastic wrist support now.

Hope the week treats everyone well.

The whole injector vs DE vs Gem-type SE is very much YMMV.

I liked my Schick "E" injector but not better than my Gillette adjustable DEs. And while I could shave with them, all the Eveready/Gem SEs came long way below either of those in my preferences. Then I tried the Supply injector and ended up switching almost entirely to it.

I find it is quick and easy to use but I think I probably do get a closer shave with a Gillette DE.

i agree.i think the de blades get closer shaves is their thinner design..and yes YMMV..:):eatdrink047:

Yes. The injector blades last for more shaves because they are thicker and stiffer, but the downside is that they are not as "razor sharp" as the DE razorblades.

I can easily get a "socially acceptable shave" with an injector. It will let me look "cleanshaven" enough for almost any business or social occasion. But I don't think I have ever achieved "BBS" with an injector no matter how many passes I took. I have with a DE.

BBS never lasts more than a couple hours anyway, so I don't worry about it. But if I was prepping for a hot date where giving someone whiskerburn might be a concern, I would shave with a DE...

    Greetings,

    (Face & Head Shave)

A relaxing early morning Turkish themed face & head shave.

As always the humble Derby shave stick provide a slick protective lather in a short space of time.

I've mentioned many times in my postings that I take into consideration why some people have a love/hate opinions on the scent of Arko & derby shave sticks, even though both are great performing soaps some people can't/won't shave with them purely because of their scent, to my nose both soaps have a 'Clean scent' which I don't have any issues with besides that, once I've done my final cold water rinse I find the scent has virtually disappeared. I also count myself very fortunate to have a skin type that hasn't had a adverse-reaction to any of the shaving soaps and creams that I've used to date.

Another close comfortable acceptable face & head shave with no errors to report.

Finishing the shave off with a generous splash of Gummy Traditional Turkish Lavender Cologne.

My face & precious swede are feeling smooth and smelling divine.;)

Stay safe, and enjoy your day ladies & gentlemen.

Superb Turkish themed shave Barry. I don't mind the Derby actually. Now, the Arko is a different story, but gives an excellent lather

    Great Turkish-themed shave, Barry!

I agree about the Arko and Derby sticks. I have never minded the scent of either one. Arko in particular provides great lather performance at an unbelievably cheap price per stick, especially considering how many shaves you can get out of one. (When he visited the 30DC regularly, Chris @Bama Samurai experimented to see how long an Arko stick would last. He started with a freshly opened stick, shaved daily, and finally quit after six straight months with a bit of a stub of a stick remaining. It was difficult to hold but could still have been used in some sort of holder for another week or so...)

One question: I noticed you start with a cold water face wash. Did you ever try a warm or hot water wash and/or leaving a hot damp washcloth on your whiskers for a few minutes? There seem to be two camps on the pre-shave wash: Some people feel that damp heat softens the whiskers and makes them easier to slice through. Others feel that cold water makes the whiskers stand out from the skin more and that makes them easier to cut.

Thank you Chris..Scent wise to my nose the Derby shave stick has a better scent out of the two IMHO, but both give an excellent excellent Lather.I really like the Derby soap bowl, I've yet try the Arko bowl/tub yet, due to me having quite a large stock of the shave stick.

Thank you John...I like to use up the remaining stubs of shave sticks-shaving soaps and grate them into a tub to make my own soap creations with them, some have worked wonderfully. When I first started out I occasionally used the warm water flannel/ face cloth method, but I found the cold water makes makes the whiskers stand out from the skin more and makes it easier to cut, I also found that the cold water method, I didn't get any irritation, this could be that my technique had vastly improved also.

However, in the colder winter months it can be quite a horrible shock to the system experience, especially at 5am on a cold winter morning so I sometimes use a cold/tepid warm method. I always say if the method you use works for you, then stick with it.

Thank you for the post John, I hope you are on the road to recovery with your wrist.

    Yours- Barry.

    June 16th 70th Birthday Shave!

    Good Morning.

    Straight Razor Shave #611
    Max Sprecher
    Catie’s Bubbles Tuxedo Brush
Seaforth Sea Spice Lime SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Lucky Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 2 Days

Of course, the most appropriate setup to celebrate my 70th birthday is shaving with Max. Three passes gave me a smooth, comfortable and drama free shave. I picked Seaforth Sea Spice Lime because it has a great scent and it lathers well. Here's my lather:

    20250616_092147.jpg

The alum feedback was minimal. Splashed on the witch hazel and the matching aftershave to finish this awesome shave. Take care.
PS. Sorry that I posted this a day later.
