Hi, I’m rand and am a new member. I’ve been viewing tsd for a few months now and just joined. Been using safety razors for around 5 months and love it. So much so that I’ve started taking biotin to try and grow hair on my face faster so I can shave more often than every 2 to 3 days. rad much? or just neurotic haha. I have accumulated a modest supply of razors, brushes, soaps, bowls, scuttles, and other stuff and proudly wear my teeshirt stating my RAD affliction. I prefer slants and open comb razors and the rarer combination of the 2, like the fatip lo storto (a favorite), razor rock super slant L1 and L2++oc’s, and the monster oc slants from paa. Got an adjustable slant a few weeks ago called the torqx which is a lot of fun to use and spent lots of time searching for that yet to be found adjustable open comb slant. Paa claims to have that adjustable ability on their open comb monster slants by loosening the handle (i’ve got the blue one and like it alot) but I was searching for a more explicit type adjustable like the torqx or parker variant of which I have both. I recently started using straight edge shavettes and its going pretty well so far. Been using the Dovo shavette with the long blade and short blade (regular de blade broken in half) about 3 times now and just recently aquired the feather AC SR. Used a pl30 proline schick blade a couple days ago with it and today received 2 sample blades per each of the 5 feather proprietary blade categories, and the 3 kais as well. I got these single sample blades from ‘the razor blades club, https://www.razorbladesclub.com/’, on a recommendation either from this forum or badger and blade, cant remember which. Just finished a shave with the feather SR using the feather soft guard blade and couldnt cut myself if I tried with that blade. Next shave I’ll try the pro guard and on and on it goes. I’m getting better at it with each shave and am extremely careful and go very slow with a pretty flat angle. I do about a pass and a half with the shavette and then finish it up with a de. I like using the shavette but cant see myself switching to it completely because I’d miss my safety razors too much.
Welcome randba. I'm looking forward to any posts you might share. Sent from my SM-A526U using Tapatalk
Welcome @randba. You mention your angling strategy-I've always had trouble with that-perhaps a reason why I find disposeables most confortable for me. Looking forward to your future posts.
thanks @blondblue, the only reason I start the angle flat and keep it shallow when using the feather ac, is because its my 1st go with a shavette and I want to avoid nicks and cuts. I’ve been using DE razors for a few months now and feel pretty confident with using them and can find the right angle, for me anyway, pretty proficiently, even though I’m new at it and definitely want to remain teachable. As far as disposables and cartridge razors go, I will never go back to that horror.
