A travel soap container. Why didn't I think of that? It's cheap and easy (like me)! I'll use that idea until something fancy stumbles along. Thanks for the tip! - Bax
This might be of interest to some here. Gimmicky perhaps but, I do like the thought process behind it and the all in one assembly while offering a collapsible razor is quite ingenious. Made of both Titanium & Aluminum, razor & case respectively while offering a dual head set up for daily or multiple days of growth. My interest is piqued…
awesome.the backpacker, bush prepper crowd will love these..although how to carry the wheelbarrow full of blades we wetshavers own could be a problem..
I did some reading up on it, and the one person that bought this $95 razor said it gave an average shave. He was unimpressed, and said there are better out there. When I must travel light, this Vintage Gillette is the way to go. But, my Go To razor is the Gillette Fatboy.
My thought is getting a modern shaver like a Weishi but other brands selling the short handle model with a case or Weishi but the model with case is hard to find in USA as you have to buy on AliExpress or Baili that come with a case and in Baili you can get 3 piece or a butterfly design with the case. Gear hub although the cases a bit bigger and no mirror they still travel okay according to the reviews plus the brand has a bunch of options with the metal case for all but the expressly beginner model is missing the case, the beginner model in online listings like Amazon or own site uses the words beginner as much as they can for the beginner model. These are travel shavers and people often keep these shavers after starting out especially if they come with a small case to be used mainly for plane travel after they have felt they want to upgrade to a nicer shaver or not have a bulky normal setup as some like big bulky setups for the upgrade that are not for traveling. Also, Parker has a small leather case for the short handle 3 piece shavers if looking at one of those shavers and Parker has a small 3 piece shaver for the job that comes with a case as well. Another option if trying to bring on a plane one small luggage bag without other luggage that is not with the person is to use one of the all plastic shavers 7'Oclock has one flip top as does a Chinese brand that is different as the hinge part on the Chinese is bulky looking and Lord/Chinese brand have a 2 or 3 piece screw top if you have to use a screw top version. Just get in destination a pack of Safe-T-Shaver blades as in most of the world has at least one option of blade except maybe in places with almost no options, only limited options on modern blades/cheap disposable or places like Saudia Arabia that still ban shaving outright in the entire country.
I don't see much utility value in the 'travel' razors. Some, yes, but not much. The one use I have where every cubic inch of space is, or can be, totally and utterly full is when traveling on the motorcycle. An overnight trip is not what I mean, but a longer can make a Merkur travel razor in its shirt-pocket-size leather case (for example) a benefit.
Travel Razors are cool because... well... they're so COOL! And, like AR-15 accessories, if it LOOKS cooler, then it MUST work better, too! Errybody knows that! I love my old folding Schick Magazine Repeating Razor! I always travel with it. Using a modern blade (that's thinner than they were in 1920) it doesn't do the best job, but it's adequate, and the Fun Factor outweighs the imperfect shave I get with it. No BBS with this one, but certainly acceptable in polite company. Plus I feel more classy when I travel with it (and my goofy 2-pc antique silver metal handled travel brush). Unfortunately, I'm running low on La Toja shaving soap sticks (my go-to for travel). The whole POINT of this hobby is FUN, right? So if using a travel razor is FUN (whether it's a dinky-handle Gilette or a folding Schick), then it makes perfect sense! - Bax
Try a Treet Carbon Blade, one of the last of the old-style blades for shavers that use the thicker pre 1940's blades, from what I have read they work better in the shavers just take care to dry off and leave outside the shaver. The other option if needing to keep the blade in the shaver head due to the type of traveling vacation you are doing, is using another blade that can even be a dead blade using Tin snips/sharp wire cutters is to cut the blade so it no longer has the edges but have enough material gone so you can tell the blade apart from the shim. The second option can if shim is on bottom turn the shaver into a slightly more aggressive blade like 1 dial up on the old Gillette Adjustable models Fatboy/slim handle.
