Hi guys I found an unicorn in a vintage luxury set. Radar Safety Razor, apparently made by Paolo Baenziger of Bologna, the maker of the Benz and perhaps the Metropolis. I think it's rhodium plated or silver in fantastic condition. The assembled razor weighs 71 grams of which 40 are the hollow handle and 30 the head, it is a three-piece razor.
Is the knurling a whitish color, or is that just the lighting? Assuming it's the lighting, it appears to be nickel plated. Rhodium is much brighter/whiter in color. Merkur used to make razors for Hoffritz that were plated that way. Milk plating, or something like that. They had a matte (zinc?) white oxide layer on the knurling only. Quite striking looking razors. I think the general consensus is that they were polished nickel when sold, but over time they developed that patina. I never did nail that particular rumor down, so take it with a grain of salt. I have seen multiple razors like it though.
Correct on the knurling and the head is milk plating probably is oxide layer. When I received it I thought it was silver plated, I tried cleaning it with vinegar but it remained unchanged. And I like it very much
