Hi Everyone. I'm considering buying this razor and I would like to know if this razor is worth buying and if so, how much should I pay for it. The seller says it is a Vintage George Wostenholm & Sons Cut-throat Razor -(hb). Does anyone know anything about this company and the razors they made. I'd love to know more about it before I buy it (with the wife's permission of course).
It should be a good shaver with a little work. My untrained eye doesn't see very much hone wear or too much rust/damage to the blade or handles. I can't tell you how much to pay for it but do consider the added cost of having someone hone it for you if you don't do it yourself.
It looks like it's worth buying if the price is right. Make sure there are no cracks in the blade, and that there is no pitting or heavy rust anywhere along the cutting edge - from the photos it looks good. A proper sharpening may be all it needs to see service again, the wostenholm pipe razors are popular among the straight razor shavers and is a good brand nice looking handles...
Give that blade some tender loving care and it will be a great shaver. I have a Wostenholm that is among my top shavers. bj
I know nothing about straights; but, I just have to note that the first time I saw the thread title, before I even read the post, my first thought was, "Is this a serious question? Of course you should!" :happy102
Wostenholms are one of the top Sheffield straight manufacturers. With the thicker tang, it looks like a 5/8, or maybe even a 6/8. They're great shavers and if cleaned up it will look very nice. Sometime down the road you can also get it rescaled. So it will be worth a little more than just a starter blade. But I wouldn't go more than $40 US.
I didn't get it. Some one else was prepared to pay $62.00 aud for it. I only went to $55 and thought this is crazy. But I have bought three others from ebay since then.
