As the *ONLY* :)mad:) person in the family (on either side, mother or father) losing their hair, I have to say clippers and a #2 guard are my friend!

If/when it gets thinner, a #1 guard will be my friend.

    Then comes the shave.

I'm not quite ready to admit defeat yet, and I'm not convinced I would look like a complete doofus with a shaved dome.

  3. And of course, spray-on hair in a can.

I cut my hair short, almost crew anyway, but I keep a tail.

At first, while I still had something, I'd have fun with it: comb overs, costume tups, shaving words or pictures, whatever else I can think of. I might get into some dye. I'd try to see how far I can go before people start commenting...

After a time of that, I don't konw, a year-ish, I'd just keep at whatever length I like. Right now that's be cropped, but I might grow it a bit.

  5. i'd:

    a) be pretty ok with it, hair is kind of annoying anyway
    b) shave it bald
    c) profit?

I would buy a pretty blonde wig and become a transvestite.

Sadly, I started seriously losing my hair in my mid 20's. Now that I'm in my late 30's (okay...39), I use clippers with no guard to crop it as close as possible. Then I actually use my DE to shave the irritating little "island" on my forehead. It's so closely cropped, right now, that it might as well be shaved. I have to say that it was very liberating to go this short. Showers are over in record time. I no longer have to worry about shampoo, conditioner, hair dryers, brushes, etc.

I think that by the spring I'll be shaving my head. Thankfully, SWMBO likes it short like this, and my head has a pretty decent uniform shape to it.

I'd keep what I have for as long as I can, It's already getting thin in the front and back.

My head is too big (hat size 8) to go bald. It's not as obvious when I have hair, but I have shaved in the past and it's not good.

Luckily both my grandfathers died with a head full of hair, so I think I'm in the clear... but if I started loosing it, I would probably shave it all of and start growing a wicked mustache instead, like Jamie in Mythbusters... :D

I'm in agreement with Stuggi, I got lucky with two sides both have a full head of hair. I'd cut it short like Sting'esq, then if it kept falling out, I'd shave it and grow a sick stache too, like Jason Lee on My Name is Earl.

    cheers

Definitely shave it dude, give it 30 days before you decide to grow it back though, you need a one month commitment to see if it will work for you..

This is an easy one. Either you have a full head of good looking hair, or you shave it bald. When you first "START" to go bald you may get away with a close shaved (clippered) hair cut, but once their is a visible bald spot or the forehead becomes a five or six head, shaving it smooth is the only respectable way to go. Hopefully you'll have friends and family that care enough about you to let you know when you've reached the comb over stage or when you are the last person in the room who thinks your hair looks good. Mine is starting to thin, once it is noticeable to everyone it will have to go!

As I turned 40 over this past summer, I noticed in a video conference call that I could see clear through my 'do - from the back no less...I was in denial for weeks.

That made me shed my 70's feather to a high and tight crew cut...
If it gets worse, I'll see if the Truefitt and Hill will do the inaugral shave of my dome with a straight razor...hey - If i am gonna go, I'm gonna go GOOD!

As the widows peak becomes more and more pronounced, I just keep cropping it closer and closer. I am as close now as my wife will happily accept. One day it may just end up shaved and we will see how that goes over... But not today.

I am bald! I've got too many dents in my head from fighting with Jarheads to shave my squash. So...I developed a passion for Stetsons and other expensive hats.

When I started going bald, I just close cropped my hair. After enough of it had left, I started shaving my head. Best decision I ever made. I like the look and I get to use more of my brushes, creams, soaps, and aftershaves. :D
