http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=360124374933 anyone familiar with the make of the razor? any guesses on the era? should be a fairly decent blade?
1900s Blade looks like it has been honed to within an inch of its life. If that is not the case then I think it is smaller than a 5/8. Blade looks in good shape though. Not familiar with the brand.
I am not familiar with that company, but that does not mean it does not have potential. I like the interesting design of the tang and the edge does not appear to have any obvious defects. However, it looks like there are some substantial scratches on the blade near to the toe on picture 4 that will take some restoration skills and patient sanding to get out. Some of it may be the tape goo that the seller mentioned, it is hard to tell. It sounds like you are primarily interested in the blade which tells me you already are looking for a project involving re-scaling a razor. I would pay the opening price for it, but not too much more. But that is just my opinion. There are a lot of razors available. With some substantial work and then honing, you could probably make it into a good shaver.
well it cost me about $15 shipped so i guess ill find out what condition its really in. my main interest is the blade. i havent seen any others like it yet, though im new to str8s. i intend to fit it up with some metal scales. im not a big fan of wood or plastic, though i would like to get into wood working eventually.
$15 is not bad for a vintage blade to work on. I think the tang design is cool. Let us know how it is when you get it.
i just paid for it tuesday so hopefully itll be here in the next couple weeks. ill make sure to take some better pictures of it before i destroy it
