I was given a Shavemac 23mm Custom for Christmas. The last 2 weeks or so it has done nothing but shed on me, 1-2 hairs per day it seems like. Anybody else have this problem with the shavemac's? I have just started face lathering and I hope this will cut down on the abuse that bowl lathering can have.

It's normal for the brush to shed in the first month. If it continues, you may want to send Bernd an email. He is good about making problems go away. Good luck.

Austin, how long should I let the shedding occur before I have too much shedding? I have heard Bernd stands behind his products but if it is normal I will just be patient.

Tracy, if you lose 1-2 hairs a shave, it's no big deal. His knots are packed densely that 60 hairs will not affect it. If you are losing 5-10 hairs a shave, you have a problem and I would not wait. I hope this helps.

    Thanks Austin.

I have only been loosing 1-2 hairs per shave so I won't worry just yet.

Tracy, if it worries you, contact Bernd by email. Over the years I've owned 12+ Shavemacs and they each may have lost 1-2 hairs period. It's like every Simpson I ever owned has shed. Everyone says, It's OK to expect some shedding. It's not OK, you spend yor good money for a product and it should be something you enjoy using not something that is annoying. My 2 cents.

Could it be that I damaged it from plunging too much while making lather?

It just seems odd because my $50 QED brush has only lost 2-3 hairs total.

The hair in the knot is resilient. It will take quite a bit of abuse to damage the hairs.

I am going to give it another 7-10 days and then see if it improves. If it doesn't I think I will email Bernd to see what he thinks.

Thanks for the info Austin and Bronco.

I bought an Omega 6214 brush from this place last year, and after about 6-7 months it turned into a shed monster deluxe (I mean bad. I could just gently run my fingers through it, and a good 8-10 hairs would fall out). I contacted them, and they told me to send it back for a replacement -- no problems. If that place will stand behind their products, then I imagine that Bernd will really take care of you.

By the way, the replacement has not dropped a single hair. :)

    Tracy,
I haven't notice losing hairs regularly from any of my shavemac brushes, I think I have lost maybe 5 or 6 hairs total that I can remember out of any one of them. I would email Bernd and see what he has to say.

I have had one shavemac (out of 4) that shed a few hairs over the first dozen or two uses. It has been fine over the last few uses.

The other brushes have at most shed 5 hairs each.
