Hello Folks, some of you i´m allready know from other shaving forums, others not Today I want to show my last restoration. Its an NOS Weltmeister blade with walnut scales. The brass inlays i removed with a heating gun from the old plastic scales (they was warped). For the finish I used epoxy to bring the scales and the inlays on the same level. Was my first try with it, so it isnt flawless, but I think not so bad. The wedge is acrylic with brass and all pins are adjustable.
No Klaus, this time not at usual. I´m tested here a new finish and i´m still not there, where I want to be. Actually I´m working on a similar razor with ebony scales and im still not sure, if epoxy is the right choice. The coat was so uneven, that I sanded it out again to the grain. Actually I dont have an idea, how to apply epoxy right. Perhaps I go back to CA finish, or will test a special 1K boat laquer. Only glueing the brass inlays on the wood is no option, so I must find an other way to get the results that I want. @all: Thanks a lot.
Well it really does look great in the pictures. Good luck trying the boat laquer! As far as the brass inlays are concerned: You could countersink them into the wood and cover them with CA, epoxy or whatever you're using?
Oh, that is very nice! I am a sucker for end-caps and I know that, although you are not completely happy, they look great from here. James.
I dont managed it, to made the ebony scales also with brass inlays. After one week of frustration and failed trys I removed all the epoxy, CA and brass. Now it is a simple oiled ebony handle.
