Welcome to the second in my series: "How not to make a shaving video" :)

There's not actually a lot here that you have not seen before I guess. However, this is generally how I go about my shaving routine. I figure it may be of some interest, at least as a peek at how we shave down under...

Please excuse the poor quality and lack of any commentary. I am afraid I cannot do two things at the same time.. ;)

You know, with the lack of dialogue and the fixed camera, this could be a fine entry in the French New New Wave! :D

A fine video, I do like your sink scuttle!

Actually, on second thought, it reminds me more of Werner Herzog...Genius!

Real comments: Why don't you relather on the second pass? And What's the razor you're using?

Thanks for posting the video James.

Can you also do a head shaving video?

Thanks for the video James. Is that your kangaroo strop? What razor is that?

    Thanks guys. :)

The razor is an 8/8 Henckels Friodur with a worked back and Sambar Stag scales. I believe Robert Williams did the scales. It is a very good shaver, but you have to be a little careful with the weight.

I started using that big enamelled bowl because of water restrictions over here when we were in drought. I can just carry the bowl out to my plants and give them a drink instead of letting it go to waste down the drain.

Yes, that is indeed the kangaroo strop.

On the relather issue for ATG: just using water is something that I have always done actually (since straights, I mean). I find that my face is still lubricated to some degree because of the left over lather from the first pass. But I get the extra benefit of actually seeing the stubble and where I am going this way. It is just a personal thing.

A head shave video was in fact the first in my "How not to make a shave video" series :D I think it is in the headshave sub-forum.

James, I can no longer shave with a straight, well at least not until I get a cataract removed from my left eye. When I start finally again to use a straight, I will definitely need your advice! ;)

Always willing to offer any help I can Jeff - whether useful or not :D

Good luck with the cataract mate.

Ahhh, it's a lovely razor, but 8/8 scares me.
Ok, see, that's what I thought about the relathering, and that's how I roll with a DE on my final "touchup" BUT, when I shave with a straight there's no left-over lube on my face. Feels dry as a bone.
Am I using too much pressure?

Well not necessarily. For me there is generally a bit of lather left on the side of the neck, up under my eye, etc that I do not wipe away when I shave - that's the left over cream I mean.

However, even when I have been tidy and not lathered areas with no stubble I still use the water-only ATG pass. I find there is enough lubrication with the warm water, but perhaps that is just me.

    not bad dood

Pretty decent vid man. I liked the mix of stropping and shaving and mixing the creama. Most vids on the net show either one or the other, not alll three so that's something cool about your vid. I was thinking of doing a what not to do vid, as my technique is all unorthodox and I do dangerous stuff like ATG on the stache, but I don't think all the rules are meant for everybody. My real troubles now are I've got the collecting bug, and spent the weekend dragging my family around antique stores looking for straights lol. I just got a nice FWE Special and some hones so I'm ready to start playing! I shave with my prehoned Wapi right now, and I really like it, but stropping is my worst nightmare.

Well cool vid, keep posting'em them man

    Cheers
    D
