Jay - Congrats! I remember getting my B.S. degree, it was a great day when all the hard work finally started paying off. BTW, what was your major?
What IS that??? Very cool! I got my Goodfella (black) yesterday. I'll take it for a spin tomorrow. I like the feel: small, but hefty. The smooth part of the handle feels grippy. Maybe it has some kind of micro texture. I'll also try it with some o-rings in the grooves. The head is amazingly thin, but feels very sturdy. A nice modern take on an old technology! If I can fine a good case, the size will make this an easy razor to travel with. That of course assumes I like the shave.
It is a rare Variant of the English Gillette Rocket HD. I think this was made in Germany or France. I can't remember which.
I think I was bidding against you on that. Did the seller list it as a fatboy superspeed made in USA or something like that?
I know, I know. :ashamed001 I even have a couple Z-4's without cases that are in fair shape. Edit: One may be a Z-3? This is what happens when you have too many razors.
Well, since I posted these in another thread I guess they belong here too. I really love the look of Bakelite and especially the various British News (#77) and how they shave.. but what I love even more is France... and the French New (#77) is one of my favorite razors to use. I'll take another picture later to illustrate but the handle has "Importe d'Angleterre" stamped on the neck as well.. so cool!
That's a beauty Rodd! I have a spare case (just like this one) with blade holder.. no razor though.. would you like me to send it your way? I'm thinning out my inventory so if I don't use it.... Ebay.
on the way..... a sad looking valet autostrop with a major crack in the handle, right? now, notice the top of the handle. square. this is a 1907(ish) autostrop and from what i know, the first style they made. im geeked. the square part is solid, so the crack isnt going anywhere. some marine epoxy and im golden. richard golden.
I think you'll really like the European HD Scotty. It has a much grippier handle than the normal HD. I like mine much better for actual shaving than the HD or LD's. Send me a PM with your thought's after you've tried it a time or two.
Aristocrat I purchased this at the end of February and it arrived today. I think it is a 1946-1947 because it has endcaps, but no notch. I would appreciate confirmation or correction from someone who knows. I used it today for the first time and it was the best shave I ever had. I used Col. Conk Amber Soap with a CE/EJ Best Badger Brush. I finished with Alum block, Dickinson's Blue Label Witch Hazel, and Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Moisture Treatment for Men. The seller threw in a couple of extras. A GEM Micromatic with box and what appears to be an English Aluminum Handle Tech (no date code).
I picked up a Type I2 Schick injector at my local antiques mall - it had the original case and blade injector, with a few NOS blades still in it. This is the version with the black handle, gold head, and the spring lever that opens for easier cleaning. The case showed the spiderweb cracks, but otherwise is all in one piece. There are signs of wear on the razor, but overall it is still gold, with no signs of plate loss. I paid $15 for it. I also picked up a Christy Pilot Model razor with the box. It was also in good condition, although that won't matter, as there are no blades for this thing - for $5 I thought it might make a nice curiosity in my collection. Not a bad pickup. Plus, yesterday my Irisch Moos shave stick came in, along with a generous sample of the J.M. Fraser Original shave cream. Overall, it has been a pretty good week.
something dosent look right about the handle, especially the knob. it almost looks like a SR handle in a way from the double rings down.
