I have an Illionis 6534 hanging strop. It has virtually no draw compared to the TM heirloom strop I just got.

Does this need cleaning, would it improve the draw on the strop.
How should I go about cleaning it. I have been thinking of using lexol leather cleaner, then lexol leather protectant. Should I also scrub with a pumice stone?

SRP has tons of info on strop cleaning.
(I hope it's ok to give a reference to them for this purpose)

From my research and knowledge I have found the following.

A fine grit pumas stone will help clean the leather user very very little water if any.

Use your palm and condition the leather by rubbing your palm on the strop the oil of your hand over time will help condition the leather best.
    or
A small tiny tiny amount of Neatsfoot oil is best to use if you want to condition the leather.

If the stop is really bad ie nicks etc you can use a fine grit 800 sand paper and sand the strop before you pumas it. if there are heavy nicks you can superglue the flaps into the stop first.

    Hope that helps you out
