Rosco was my second best friend for most of the twelve years of his life. We've been going for a walk every day for at least 10 years, mssing only about 10 days a year. He got a damn disease named megaesophagus and was wasting away from malnutrition. He was down to 59 pounds on Saturday when we had to let him pass on. This just plain sucks! I miss my pal!
I am sorry to hear of the loss of a family member. :sad029 Sincerely, MsB, and the critters here on Moon Lake
I am so sorry to hear that. Dogs are so wonderful. My thoughts are with you. Is there an animal shelter near you where I can make a donation in his name? Edit: I'm sorry about my avatar. That's just what I already had set up. I didn't even think about it until I had posted.
Dog Quotes I hope these are of some comfort: "You think dogs will not be in heaven? I tell you, they will be there long before any of us." Robert Louis Stevenson If I have any beliefs about immortality, it is that certain dogs I have known will go to heaven, and very, very few persons. James Thurber "If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went." Will Rogers, 1897-1935 "The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man's." Mark Twain, letter to WD Howells 1899 Once a dog has entwined himself round your heart he is not only yours for life, but you are his. When he is gone, his place is forever sacred. Other dogs are just as precious but they all have their allotted spot in your affections kept for them or their memory. A heaven without one's dogs would not be the heaven we hoped for. A dog is always man's best friend. Written By: anonymous Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read. I'm terribly sorry to hear this news. I've been there more than once and it's not pleasant at all. We get so darned attached to these pets it's tough losing them.
Max, I'm truly sorry. Rosco sounds like a true and loyal friend. I'm glad you, in turn, truly enjoyed your years together!
Im so sorry to hear, as a dog rescuer and owner my thoughts are with you!! Here is a poem that we use in rescue when a dog passes, to help us remember our loved pups. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Max, I was thinking of you while I was running around earlier, my thought are truly with you. Then a call came in from our shelter coordinator, as most do not know I am president of a basset hound rescue organization, and it hit me. If it's ok with you I would like to name the next basset we rescue after Rosco, in honor of his memory. Coder.
Thank you so much to all of you for your kind words, thoughts and prayers. It has helped me along the healing path. The quotes, stories and sentiments have brought small pieces of comfort. Time, the great healer, will also do its part. MK-Ultra. Thank you for all you've said and offered. Aircoder. Thank you for the Rainbow Bridge. In my heart I believe its true. And what wonderful reunions they'll be. I'd be greatly pleased to hear of a Basset named after Rosco. I love Bassets. One of our neighbors has two and they are so fun. Thanks. For those who still have a "child in a fur coat", give them an extra hug or treat tonight, for all too soon they'll be a memory.
Man I am sorry to hear that. I lost a few dogs too. Never fun. Even when a friend or relative looses one.
