I pulled this razor out of the bay several months ago when I was on a "Milord kick" and trying to pick up any variation that I could. I never really looked at it all that closely until today, and noticed some weird things about it. Firstly, you'll notice that the gold plating is a little silvery looking, and not the dark gold color that is typically seen on Gillette razors. But the real bizarreness is that PAT NOS. ON PKG. is not stamped inside the blade tray nor does it have REG US, PAT OFF, or MADE IN USA on the bottom of the razor -- just the X1 (1st quarter 1952) date code and the Gillette logo.
I have one just like it. It has a W code (Can't remember the # off hand) and Gillette written underneath the head and that is all. Sadly a lot of the plating is worn off. I have no idea what it is. Mine came from Canada.
When you say it came from Canada, do you mean that's where the seller lived that you bought it from, or are you implying that this is a Canadian model?
You know, it might have been Canada also. I couldn't remember so I checked my past PayPal payments and did see a purchase for a Milord from a Canadian seller, but the listing is no longer viewable.
I think a lot of the milords are gold plated over nickel. For example the one you posted would be a gold plated ss. I have a 1947 Milord, no notched, endcaps, no date code. The gold finish is worn from the outside of tto doors and end caps to reveal a nice nickel finish. I thinks I might just keep polishing until one day I have myself a nice ranger tech
