So I have a razor sampler pack but I've held off on using the feathers because of what I have heard about how wickedly sharp they are. My go-to razors are my Fat Boy, slim adjustable, Red tip SS, 40's Aristocrat, and a Merkur HD. I do have a Flare tip SS and a Blue tip SS in my collection but I use them much less often. Any suggestions for which razor I should use for my first Feather shave? TIA ctakim
Don't believe the BS you read about Feathers. All razor blades are sharp and they all can cut you if you do something stupid. Doc.
I'd say use your favorite shaver. I've used Feathers in a late '40s SS, a Flare Tip, an Old, and a particularly cool Fat Boy that some really nice guy PIF'd to me. They're the perfect blade for me (so far) and worked well in all of those. Like them best in my favorite shavers - the late '40s SS and the Fat Boy. Cheers, Tom
Hi Tom!! I guess I could start in the Fat Boy dialed down to 1 and this would allow me to compare with the other blades I've used thus far! Thanks, Chris
It's all about technique and prep. If you're doing it right, you should have no fear of the Feather. Personally, I use Feathers in every razor I own and get great results. BTW.... I set my Fat Boy at 2 with a Feather.
I've tried a feather in my '57 Superspeed and Fatboy. I can get a good shave in either, though the Fatboy on 3 was much easier than the superspeed, which has a very fine line between leaving stubble and leaving razor burn for me.
you have to try before the feather dorco or derby or astra ceramic superior.. this is my idea of course but be carefull about feather as you this is the DE brand name was sharpest.. REgards!
+1 on the Super Speed. I am not yet ready to use a Feather in a Merkur (38C, HD), but I have used them in Super Speeds. For the record, my regular blade is Red Pack Personna.
