Where is a good source for the Godrej? It's not that I have enough shaving creams or soaps or anything... Nathan
The Indian super-store (it's huge!) in Singapore stocks Godrej. It's pretty cheap at about S$1.90 a tube. That works out, at current rates to be just under US$1.25 each. I bought the menthol and original scents. The lime one smelt a bit weird. It lathers pretty well, but it seems less dense than the lather resulting from TBS shaving cream. I think I might have a sensitivity (to lanolin?) though. After leaving the lather on my face for a few minutes, I start to feel a tingling/burning. Because of this, I'm hesitant to try my new puck of MWF. Anyway, if anyone wants some tubes, shoot me a PM, and I'll pick up what I can on my next trip to the Indian place.
I picked mine up on Amazon--do a search over there and you'll find it. They recently raised the price to 1.90 or 1.99, but still cheap. Shipping is around 4 bucks. The outfit is in Chicago, and they ship very fast. I had no complaints. They carry all three flavors now too.
Lanolin provides a tremendous amount of slip, and that's an unequivocal fact. It's an asset to any shaving lather - cream or soap. Cheap? Maybe, but MWF contains it, and that's a medium-priced SS.
Is'nt Lanolin good?? I think Lanolin is a good ingridient for any skin product myself. Am I wrong or is there a reason why someone would not want this in what they use.
Got my Godrej through one of the sellers on eBay. It was under 5 bucks shipped. They carry three varieties of it, and I picked up two (Menthol Mist and Lime Fresh). Good stuff at a great price.
The best shave cream I have ever used is Proraso Red, which has a nice combo of Lanolin and Wheat germ oil I also have The Real Shaving Company A/S Balm, and it has lanolin; nice moisturizing properties.
Mottern Man:as far as I know La Toja has never contain lanolin on its formula and have not been re formulated for at least, the last 9 years.Im not a big fan of the shaving cream.I find the portuguese creams better than La Toja(and yes, more expensive)
You've all inspired me to try Godrej Menthol Mist. I have one sitting on my shelf, unused because I had some reactions to MWF. But just the other day, I used some Omega SS (that contains lanolin), and all was well. Wish me luck!
India is THE place for DE and Wet Shaving !!!! The other day I stepped in to the super store and found the following : Godrej = Aggressive Marketing = 30% extra free. So picked up 3 tubes for a dollar each. 100 ml of lanolin goodness for a dollar Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum (Black) = 5+2 free offer. Picked up 10 tucks and got 70 blades for the price of 50. Around 7 $ Gillette Wilkinson Sword Stainless = Aggressive marketing 50% cost discount = imagine good blades for around 3$ for a 100... Man - Can I sense jealousy around this thread
Good luck! I also had a reaction to MWF, but I have used Godrej Deluxe Lather and Menthol Mist with no troubles...
Lanolin is the thing I most look for in an ingredient list. I think (strictly an opinion, mind you) a lot of people on shaving forums claim to be "allergic" to lanolin, or suffer some kind of irritation, when in fact it is something else about that cream, or soap. In my case, Musgo Real and Godrej give me problems, but nothing else with lanolin ever has, so it couldn't be the lanolin. Lanolin is not popular for those with oily skin; i.e., a lot of young men. It's reasonable that they would need something that was actually drying rather than moisturizing.
