I couldn't pass these up. The top of the Ever ready case is missing and I'm not sure if this is the correct case for the Gillette. I did some digging and the Gillette is from 1920.
Got fed up with some mama bear ylang ylang I have been using. Hate the smell of it, got out an old puck of Crabtree and Evelyn Sandlewood and I love it. Only to find that Crabtree and Evelyn no longer makes the Sandlewood. Argh, just when I find something I like I can't get it anymore. So I ordered some Conk soaps from a local store called the Knifecenter. Ordered some Bay Rum, Lime and Almond scents. Will post photos of it when I get it in my hands.
The grooved/scalloped top makes it look aggressive. The magnet is for picking up a blade without using fingers or "honing" it on the sink or counter.
Interesting. Mine isn't strong enough in the head to pick up a blade. It seems like it is a rare earth magnet at the end of the handle. I can easily pick up a blade with the end of the handle. Today I took delivery of a razor I have been trying to get for a year. Second one I won, but the other "got lost." Not as pretty as Scottys, but I am so happy with it. Thank you Dave for the heads up! I attached both the ebay image, and my image. Price tag: <$30 shipped. Interesting note, there has been discussion that the name of this set may be the "Somerset" I have good reason to believe it is not. More info soon.
MAIL CALL! To start with I got me one o' them germeeecidal french press coffee makers. Guess that means I don't have to warsh it between uses. Auto-strop w/ bakelite case, no blades or strop... Gem 1912? w/ case, missing blade holder I think? Gillette Old Type w/ case, no blade holders HUGE Omega 48 brush, and a well used Every Ready brush Wash it all down with a size comparison
I recall seeing an advert image with someone picking up a blade with the handle end. I think the magnetic pull at the head is from the magnet in the tip of the handle. I don't think they intended for the head to be magnetic. That gives me an idea for my Durham razor Feather blade mashup... Nice! Can't wait! I can't find anything about the Somerset, except reference on forums. The Compendium has a picture of a Tuckaway box advertiser like this one, but no picture of the razor. It's engraved with the company name. Achim shows a Norfolk with a bar handle in a case like that.
I found the DuBerry more aggressive than the Dorset, using Feather AC blades. Not sure how the "Durham" blades compare. Please let us know!
The only Durham blade I have is the used one that came with it. I'm going to have to make a trip to Lowes and get some carpet blades to try.
What, are you the size of Andre the Giant? Good grief, man, that brush is huge!!! I use one of those Ever Readys, and although it's a bit small, I certainly don't need something 5X its size! More info yet?

Personally, it's a decent cream, and cheap, it lathers good, but I have seen better. Creams from Bangladesh seem to become dry if you don't use them quickly. Creams from India are MUCH better.
Thanks, Scott! Very honestly, these Bangladeshi creams, I bought to send away to my friend, I don't want them for myself. The store where I bought them from has no more in stock, but the owner said he will by August, so then I'll buy some more and send to you and other friends of mine here.
