Ah, I love learning new things. When we stop learning the mind turns to goop. Next question: Why are caned goop cheaper then other creams?
They tell me that P&G has made a decision to move people from creams to the goop. However, they won't tell me why. This is the reason why I ask here.
Answer: probably due to mass production. Everybody and their cousin buys the canned junk. Only a few buy the tubes, tubs, and soaps. The tubes, tubs, and soaps might cheaper to manufacture, but they make fewer of them these days. I'm guessing it all comes down to profit, profit, profit, and the canned junk brings them the most right now. If everyone turned to tubes, tubs, and soaps tomorrow, thus making them profitable, then the companies would eventually start producing them in large quantities again.
It's generally understood that T&H is Truefitt and Hill. And to the OP, my favorite creams are Proraso and C&E creams
It also comes in a tube as a brushless cream. I've seen it on Ebay but hadn't found it locally to try it out yet. Best cream JB? My favorites are from TOBS also. Rose especially, but my sample of Avocado is growing on me quite a bit. It smells like fresh cut grass to me.
Creams from the good ol' US of A try the creams from two of the finest ladies in shaving. I mean Saint Sue from St. Charles Shave and our very own Queen JoAnna the Queen of Blades. I love the SCS Smoke & Beads, Oakmoss & Lavendula, Very V and Avocado Oil Creams. As for the concoctions from Queen JoAnna I love the Bamboo & Teak, Signature Scent, Gardenia & Sweetgrass. I would put any of these creams up against the English creams any day of the week. They each make fine lather and their cost is much, much less than the English creams.
And to answer one of the original questions, Neutrogena's no-lather shave cream is the worst cream I have tried. (Though the Aubrey Organics stuff is a close second... works fine but I can't rinse it off of the blade) I don't like Neutrogena's ASB/lotion either. These were some of the first things I bought when I started wet-shaving and I disliked them immediately. Take the advice of the people here, for certain. The best cream that you can easily find locally is probably the Proraso green tube that you can find at Bath and Body Works under the C.O. Bigelow brand name. It's 5 bucks for a tiny tube, but that tiny tube should last a good long while. When it comes to ordering online, you have the options of the UK, German, French, and Italian products, as well as some of the fine handmade products made in the USA (and elsewhere.) The big American companies serve the greater American market. Mass market, low quality, low cost, all profit. Most Americans are fine with that, some of us aren't, so those of us that care come to places like TSD to find out where to obtain the good stuff. It's just like beer. Apparently most people are fine with Coors/Miller Lite/Bud. I can't stand the cheap stuff. I drink Irish, English, German, or microbrew beers (Shiner has some great stuff for those of us lucky enough to live in Texas). (Or a nice glass of Aberlour or Glenlivet if I'm feeling rich )
Id buy a sample of creams throught the TSD store. I like creams that work for me. I assume that if you are on a budget Frasers is incredible stuff for the price. I actually love TOM cream and it performs excellent IMO and very cheap.
Fraser's is incredible stuff regardless. It matches right up there with any English cream I have, IMO.
I have noticed that I really love and favor the shave creams with coconut oil in them. Frasers is one of those Alot of creams have coconut acid but I seem to prefer the oil for some reason. Frasers, TOM, Lavanda, Musgo Real, Proraso, are all on the top in performance and of course all have coconut oil.
Yes, you sure are! I just got my order of TSD cream and AS Milk.........Good formulation, The scents are Wooooo Yeahhhh, and I gotta agree with Da Bunny, right up there by TOBS product.
My favourite ones are Musgo Real and Lavanda by Arc.Brito.Speick and La Toja shaving creams are great too.
The creams I like most so far are the Castle Forbes Sandal/Cedarwood and their Lavender, but I also like LaToya for sensitive skin. But that is just a personal preference, everyone has a different taste, so you get a lot of different opinions.
The only creams in my (somewhat small) collection are TOBS, GFT & T&H and to be honest they are all great. They all lather really well , but are a bit on the pricey side. Pete
