What are your thoughts on this? I personally think it's disgusting that he has been put on the same list as mass murderers and terrorists because of his political views. You see, this is an assault on free speech and I think Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is one of those leading this march of tyranny. Freedom is a gift and whether you're a liberal or a conservative you should not be silenced. I for one am going to boycott the UK in every way I can until they remove him from this list immediately and apologize. Again, whether you're a liberal or conservative...what they did was DEAD WRONG. Just sharing my thoughts with fellow members. Regards, Nick
Link to the story you are working off of? Just a heads up.. these kind of discussions can slide sideways fast...
Thanks for the link there Nick. Interesting read. I wonder what they do with people like him in their country. But lets remember they are not guaranteed freedom of speech like we are. At least I do not think they are. We decided years ago that we had different ways of thinking. Just another example of it. If we are going to start boycotting country's I think there are several on the list before Great Britain, a long standing friend in War and Peace. Just my .02 worth
I support Savage's lawsuit, but think the boycott idea is based on personal feelings and not logically justified. It's like those times a friend gets drunk and acts obnoxious - you get annoyed, but you're still friends.
Boycotts don't really work in the modern economy. I think he can be successful in having his name removed from the list, but it'll take a lot of work. He'll certainly have plenty of lawyers lining up to help, as they could really make a name for themselves. Britain certainly has it's metaphorical head screwed on backwards these days though. I think checked their common sense at the door. The nanny state tells people what they can and can't eat and they seem to have forgotten in which country the book 1984 was written when it comes to their crazy cameras in London.
I think I would be honored to be on that list!:happy102 It is a bunch of B.S. and makes me happy that I live in the US
Can't agree with the UK's views on free speech but Savage could use some spit on his face. He's a total dirtbag.
Not that it really needs to be said, but I will be watching this thread very closely to make sure it does not go to the dumps. As it is political discussions should be avoided here since they are simply far too volatile most of the time.
While your entitled to your opinion, I disagree. And as for this thread getting political...I never intended for it to be a political thread. I can only promise to have some self accountability. I give you my word I won't get political. I can't help it if others do though. All I ask is that people respect other people's opinions and that we all act like gentlemen. Regards, Nick
You should be ASHAMED of yourself for expressing your opinion and then having the nerve to act like a gentleman! I hereby hold you accountable for every negative thing that anyone may post on this thread in the future. You, sir, just BROKE the entire forum. I hope you're happy. :happy102
Have you never heard the term “the management reserve the right” :happy102 and did you protest or boycott anything when the USA banned Cat Stevens the singer because he had become a Muslim and changed his name or any of the long list of others that the USA have banned form entering the country. Every country has the right to stop any person from entering the country for whatever reasons or even without reason, how many people get turned back at customs or border control all over the world you will have to boycott every nation it the world just about as just about every nation at some time are another has stopped a US national from entering their country just as the US has stopped people from just about every nation from entering the US at one time or another.
I don't see anything wrong with this list of people. I most certainly wouldn't want them to enter my country as well. But, you know, the US is doing the same thing. If you answer one question in a way they dislike before flying to the US you'll spend some time rotting in a cell upon entering the country... How did the old saying with the glasshouse and the stones go?
I want to share my thoughts too! 1. You can't boycott the UK 2. It's a political thread! - the original post mentions the word "political" once, "conservative" two times, and "liberal" two times. And who is Michael Savage if not a personality invented for the purpose of exploiting political differences? 3. I don't really have any opinion on the actual matter since I am totally ignorant of how the UK runs its own government. Maybe what I mean is if I knew how many transgressions to free speech every nation in the world makes and then held those nations up to an ideal standard of the same, I would have to boycott them all and then I'd have to move to Antarctica and live off penguin meat - or something like that 4. Michael "Savage" strikes me as a h8er... and I don't like h8 In summary: I guess I don't care that what the UK did was dead wrong is it apathy? is it callousness? is it laziness? *sigh*
I can boycott the UK if I choose to. I only mentioned the terms "liberal" and "conservative" for use in my explanation when I wanted to stress that I respect both sides of the political isle. Not that I need to explain myself...Having said that, let me clarify, I will not be discussing controversial political issues that may upset people. I hope that others in this thread will stay away from those controversial political issues as well. I have never bashed anyone's political point of view either in this thread. I am simply saying that banning a man who has never committed murder, and putting him on a list of mass murderers, and terrorists is wrong. That is the main subject of this thread. I also want to apologize to anyone here from the UK that I may have offended with my choice to boycott the UK. It's nothing personal, I for one love the UK and its people. It's just that I feel strongly about this issue.
Neither - unless I am mistaken, he has facial hair. I am a conservative, dyed in the wool, through and through. That said, I don't have much stomach for Savage. He tends to be just a bit too angry for me. I prefer the happy warrior in the mold of Bill Buckley. I don't like guys that yell too much. And he also lost a lot of credibility with me when he backed Jerry Brown for California AG. I also have issues with a lot of the "medical science" he mentions from time to time on his show - he once said that the reason why humans got colds and dogs didn't had something to do with Vitamin C consumption. All those factors caused me to turn him off. That said, banning the guy just feeds his ego, plays into his bullied storyline. And it is just plain dumb to ban people for speech. I think it is interesting that, as more and more sharia-like activities are becoming accepted in the UK, they are banning others.
