With summer pretty much here in the northern hemisphere, I thought maybe a thread on sunscreen would be useful. I hate putting on sunscreen because of the greasiness on my hands. I did not put any on yesterday before yard work and have a killer burn. I've heard that they have an aerosol kind they have is good because you don't have to rub it in. What does everyone use?
Nothing special but my father-in-law was praising some product by Aveeno. He says all the doctors in his area are recommending it. I believe it's the sunblock with SPF 70. http://www.aveeno.com/suncare/spf70
this is one of the least greasy sunscreens I have tried, and it's water resistant. proderma sunscreen Get the 30 or the 45 SPF. The competition prism grade is more greasy and it smells much worse than the regular line. another option is powder sunscreen, colorscience makes one and this is one that I got at my eye/skin clinic Jane Iredale Powder-Me SPF-30 . These are good as they are not greasy at all, but it makes it hard to see where you have it on, and some places harder to apply than lotions. Aerosols are ok, I end up spreading them out with my hand anyways, this kind of defeats the purpose, and they are still oily to me anyways.
This is what we use and have been happy with it. We do use a rub in stick type on the face though when we're at the beach... It's great, have the kids stand out on the porch with their arms and legs out like an X and spray away! Go in short spurts though to conserve and also because the area gets foggy.... No need to rub in...
Similarly, I use the Aveeno moisturizer with SPF 15 most every day. It has a slight sunscreen smell, but not enough to cover up the bay rum. If I'm actually going outside, I use whatever sunscreen I can find. Not a big fan of the sprays though.
Fallene Cotz makes a nice sunscreen. Its a tad expensive but it has amazing UVA & UVB protection. But be warned, it stains like mad
