Does anyone have suggestions for hot towels I am using microwave right now. I am extremely hesitant to by a barber model for home use, for one they are out of of a reasonable price range. I wonder if any one has any diy setups in your home that is practical??
to heat my towel I just run the tap on hot and then soap the towel with it, wring a bit of water out, and I'm good to go. That gets it hot enough that I can't really imagine wanting it any hotter. YMMV, but if for some reason, your tap water isn't hot enough and you don't have small children around, it's usually fairly easy to turn the temperature up on the water heater ( though it will consume a bit more power/gas to do it and you'll need to be careful the first time you take a shower, since you wont' be used to the new water temperature.)
We just use a large glass bowl with hot tap water in it. If it doesn't seem warm enought I add a little boiling water to it.
I toss my towel in the sink with my mug and brush. When the sink is full, I wring it out and apply, by the time the towel has cooled, my mug and brush are piping hot :-D
I usually sidestep the towel all together by shaving after coming out of the shower. But to prepare a hot, steamy towl I usually place a presoaked towel in the micro for 45 seconds or so and voila.
The hubby and are like a lot of you and just use the tap. Our hot water is really HOT and it works well.
Good towels at even better prices. I am using the brown steam towels and have used the white ones too. You may also consider the herringbone towels but I like the way the steam towels hold the heat from being soaked in hot tap water better. http://www.williamsportbarber.com/ShopSite/towels.html This place is located in Williamsport Pa the home of the Little League World Series.
I usually heat a kettle for shaving because the hot water in our apartment is lousy. I fold my towel and put it in the sink before I empty the kettle into it. When the towel is thoroughly soaked, I wring it out and set it to cool while I run up my lather. The towel then gets applied , before the first pass. I can generally reheat my towel twice more after that and still get good results. goshawk
I think I will try some of those steam towels. I love a good hot towel for shaving. I imagine the brown won't show any nick spots either (I never nick myself of course :ashamed001) thnx for the post
RocketMan If there's a Dollarama anywhere near you, go to the housewares dept and look for a towel called "The Bar Mop". They cost a buck apiece and I find they are just the right size and weight for shaving. Goshawk
We just might have a Dollarama around! The name is certainly familiar. There are for sure different dollar stores all over. I will hunt me down 'The Bar Mop' and soak up the suds! thnx
Wetting and microwaving a towel really improved the good feeling to and from my last shave. This is now implemented in my procedures whenever possible.
