How do you store your straight razors?

I have not found a solution to this as yet, I have eight safeties which are hanging out in rotating toothbrush holders. I don't think that a straight razor would store to well in one of those. So I need to find some method of keeping my blade dry and easily excessible and if not those tooth brush racks then what?

We use toothbrush stands that we get at Target to store the str8's we are currently using. All others go in razor rolls that I make and are stored elsewhere.

hi jbcohen the razors that i dont use in rotation for a while they ar kept oiled in thair boxe,s in a dry aired place away from any dampne,s the whans i have in rotation i have found that lether pouche,s do a good job and it can be rolled up and put in a fairly small place ,i alweys make sure the razor,s ar put back in the pouche,s dry but i have found the lether pouche,s great and they keep up to three in one pouch, its one option to think of some guys keep them on man made wooden rack,s good luck finding the right option for you

If you can handle a saw (heck, HD and Lowes will cut it to length for free), drill a hole, and find industrial double side tape (for mounting). You could easily do like I did below. Most Home Depot's or Lowes sell hobby wood pre cut and half way sanded in Oak, Maple, Pine, etc. Below is Maple, with a couple coatings of stain/sealer combination. Optionally you could cut angle brackets and glue them on as in the photo, but with the right tape (3M VHB) you may not need them.

I have a display box which I have lined with dessicants, I oil my OORRs (out of rotation razor...A new acronym!) and put them in that. IRRs (figure it out) are carefully dried and put in a plastic box, again with dessicants.

Japan is humid. I think the dessicants are losing...

I like this a lot!! It can be made for straight razors with just a little additional work. Thank you very much.:signs001

Since I'm not into shaving with a straight yet, I store mine in a locking cash box I fouind a Target for ~$20. Jim, I also use dessicants. I found some reusables at a photo website, maybe BJ's, I forget. Anyway, you put them in the oven or mirco and they dry out (follow the direction or they might become useless). DC is humid as well.

OOPS! I didn't read very well. OP said Str8s. Baaaaaad Tooaad!

You are right, drill a large enough hole so the straight will fit through, then have a bottom piece with just a shallow drill, or perhaps a smaller hole that the tail/tang fits in.

This is how I store one of mine, in an awesome felt-lined, leather case made by our own MsB:

Since I only have two I do not think that out of rotation is much of a problem. I have the toothbrush holder for my safties so perhaps that is what I need for my straights when I am at home.

What do you use when you travel?

I keep about 6-8 in a shaving or coffee mug and some kind of sorting to each mug, may be wedges in one mug, TI's in another, favorite shavers in one, etc. I try to rotate through all of them but it is getting to be a longer process all the time

To the side of my sink I have a wooden rack that was made to match our cabinets. It has 2 strips for my razors and 3 strips for my brushes. I pretty much use 3 razors and 3 brushes.

There was a mix up on the drawing that I supplied and I was out of town. The cabinet maker knew someone that he thought would know what I wanted so I got what that guys dream display was. They offered to cut it down leave the extra strips but my wife said to leave it. He also made a straight razor holder that’s under the sink that will mount to the unit if I take off the top brush holder. When my wife finds something odd she will pick it up or order it.

When I go out of town I have a travel case I don’t like. I use an old brush I don’t like because it will mess them up if you don’t put them in just right.
