Blades for merkur hd

I have been de shaving for a few weeks now, and I have a sampler set of blades coming in the mail. My question is what are your favorite blades for the merkur hd. I have been using personnas from wal mart but I seem to have trouble with my second pass xtg on my chin and upper lip it seems a bit coarse for the blades.

 

My fav. ones for the HD are Astras and IP(Crystals) and Iridium Super(I know too many).The red pack Ip works good too.

 

My favorite blades at the moment are Gillette Super Thins. I'm not sure if they are available outside Asia though.

If not the Super Thins, I'd settle for the Gillette SharpEdge in the yellow packaging (although they are something like 10 times the price for me).

 

IP red Personnas I find work well.

 

I use Red Pack Personna's in my HD.

 

What are the Personna's in this picture considered?

Reds? Blacks? i see both colors, lol.

I have a pack of them, already, for my shavette (personna Magic Razor). I found them marginally OK for that, but no-where near the first blades I had for it (which I didn't note the name of - didn't know there was a difference back then). Wonder why the Personna name isn't on the blade-storage box the blades come in?

I find a smooth blade to be much better in my heavier razors, as opposed to sharp, as the weight of the razor gives enough pressure to shave...nothing scientific, just the way it seems.
My 38C/Fatboy list:
Red Pack (Israeli) Personnas
Astra Superiors
Wilkinson Swords and Swedish Gillettes work well for me, too

 

I love the Astra Superiors in my Merkur HD. Although I am yet to try a Feather in it.

Feathers are number 1 , Merkurs number 2.

The feathers need a bit of respect on shave 1. Shaves 2-5 are great. These are a great blade if your technique is sound.

The merkurs are good straight out of the wrapper but only do 3 shaves. They are quite unforgiving which might be good while you are perfecting your style.

I was given some free sample personna's & they dont work for me at all.

Give each brand a bit of a go, ie use 3 blades then take it from there.

I've been getting great results from the Dorco 301.

 

The Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellows and Astra Superior Platinum blades work great in my HD. I did not have as good of results with Feathers or Super Iridiums. YMMV
