Hey guys. I recently tested Trumper's Eau De Portugal cologne at the C.O. Bigelow store here in NYC. Anyway, I loved the smell, but it didn't last on my body very long. It's very expensive, as well. Could you recommend a cheaper, similar alternative? Michael
I have tried Trumper's Portugual, also. Twice. The first time I tried it, it lasted at least 8 hours, maybe longer. The next time I tried it was a few days later, and it seemed to disappear almost immediately. Apparently there is something going on that affects the longevity. The only thing I can think of (not being an expert in this kind of thing) that might affect longevity would be the amount of oil on my skin; it seems like oil would mix with the scent and retain the scent longer than dry, non-oily skin would. But I would not put much consideration into the longevity question at this point, or at least until I understand it better. Also, Portugal is one of the best scents I have ever known.
Unfortunately, EdP does not last long on anyone. It's a fleeting scent. For the price, it's not worth it to me.
Hmm, I've tried Penhaligon's Douro, which could be quite similar. I have a sample vial which I leave in the office. The scent lasts for the hour-long commute home. By the time I'm done with dinner a short while later, the scent is gone.
Unfortunatly you won't find an Eau de Portugal with much greater longevity unless you would be willing to pay more. In that case, Penhaligon's - Douro would be the ideal choice. On me it lasts about 2,5 hours. Probably my favourite cologne anytime. At a longevity of about 20 minutes would be, at a cheaper price D.R. Harris - Traditional cologne. D.R. Harris also have an Eau de Portugal hairtonic which is fantastic. I get subtle whiffs of it during the day. Fantastic. Then on the much cheaper side is Taylor's - Eau de Portugal and Pashana's - Eau de Portugal, both are hairtonics. No longevity to speak of but very refreshing. In conclusion if you're looking for the best of the best, then it's Penhaligon's - Douro, also the most expensive. I must warn you about Eau de Portugal's though. Trumper's rendition is quite different from the ones I mentioned here. Whenever you can, test before you purchase.
Pinaud makes a Eau de Portugal hair tonic that I use as a cologne. It is fleeting, but you get a 12oz bottle for $5 so I just reapply as necessary from an atomizer.
