I just bought my first DE razor and I am looking forward to my first shave with it. The problem is that I am unable to identify the upper side of the razor blade. One side has "1" written on it and the other has "E". The blade is a Gillete 7'o clock Super Platinum. Please help me to identify the upper side of the blade.

There is no "up" side to a blade. It can go into the razor "top" or "bottom" side up.

    And Welcome to TSD!!! :D

Welcome to the den! Like the man said, it goes both ways. Put 'er in there and shave! Carefully! ;)

The blade may be used with either side facing up. I have read elsewhere that the blades that have different numbers, letters, etc. on one side as opposed to the other are for the manufacturer and have nothing to do with positioning the blade in the razor. Also, you will find that some blades look identical on both sides making the "which side up" problem a moot point.

Good luck, enjoy your shaves and come back often. :)

    Welcome!

In the case of this blade, I'd put it whatever way is easiest to remove it since the glue spots from the wrapper can stick to the razor.

At least your blades have some text on them. I bought some blades that on the packing says Personna but there is absolutely no other info. Blades ar totally blank.
Anyway the blades ar OK to Good.

Drop the blade in, tighten razor, then shave. It's that easy! :)

Finally had my first shave with a DE razor. The shave went smoothly without any cuts but there was a strong burning sensation when I put some aftershave. Probably require a few more shaves before I get the technique completely right.
