I will shortly go to Pueto Vellarta and I would like to practice with my straight while I am there, and I will pack it in my bags that I check. I am still a bit scared to take my beloved inox with me even in the bags that I check. Do you put your straight in the bag that you check?

I do not think you have any other option apart from:

    1. Post it to the hotel in advance
    2. Buy a new one while you are there :D

    Regards

I packed two straights and a shavette in checked luggage when flying from New Zealand to Canada a couple of years ago and had no problems at all. I should add that on that trip I didn't transit through the USA, so I don't know how American Customs would have felt about it. I don't suppose anyone even knew they were in my suitcase.

wear a jacket to cover it on your belt and no one will notice. ;)

KIDDING! Something like this though could protect it in your luggage.

And if I did that mandrake, do you think I could get the new blade back into the country.

    1. Check it, or

    2. Post it back home :D

I've not taken one out of the country, but I have put mine in checked bags and been fine. Put it in your kit bag or use a sheath like Eric suggests.

It has to be checked no way around that without mailing it ahead which would be worse going to Mexico:)
Pack it or them in a hard plastic toothbrush holder and pack a little small bubble warp around the inside.

No doubt about the fact it needs to be packed. What I am worried about is someone going into my luggage and removing it.

I do understand your worry about it being taken but I would think the odds to be awfully small and better than sending through the Mexican mail system then I would worry.
As someone said you could buy one there if you can find one worth using and not be crazy high priced.

If you're that worried about, I would just bring the razor that you least care to lose. No more stress.....its suppose to be a vacation, right?

I do have a source for razor sheaths that are super nice and VERY reasonable in price. Like 10 % of the price of the ones at most shave stores and made in several colors, choice of lining and come in regular leather, Elk etc.:)
I just need to hear back from her to make sure she's taking orders now.

JB, It's sad but there is always a risk that someone could steal something out of any travel bag. The chances, though, are small. We'd like to think that those who inspect the bags (both in the U.S.A. and Mexico) are efficient and honest and I believe 99.9% are.

However, if you have the slightest worries about losing a cherished razor then take one that will do the job but won't be a devastating loss to you should something happen. That may mean taking an old DE that you hardly use (but gives decent shaves) or a, dare I say it , modern cartridge piece of junk.

Whatever you ultimately decide, just make sure you won't worry about it. As Kevin pointed out, this is a vacation so enjoy! ;)

You could also go over to SRP classifieds and grab a $35 razor for the trip. There are some inexpensive good ones right now.

That answers that she's taking orders:) I ordered three myself after seeing one of them and how nice they are. I'll post pics when they arrive.

Hey Pam is that the razor you use on your avatar? I gave my wife one just like it and now she's a convert! I have a hard time keeping her out of my Cyril Slater Mint shave cream--LOL!
