How does one go about learning about ie: Aristocrat, Diplomat, President, and all the different models? I see them for sale, but do not appreciate what they are all about? I would love to learn what the characteristics are.
    How do I accomplish this?

I'd start with getting the complete gillette collectors handbook by krumholtz on ebay. Read that, read a bunch of posts on this and other forums, and then you'll probably have a good idea of what's going on-

you could also use the search function on this board to find examples of those razors.

The aristocrat, diplomat, and president are all Twist To Open razors. There's also the Sheraton and the Senator. In some cases they were the same basic razor with different colors of plating (ex: sheraton and senator). There tended to be one economic model and one high end.

I'm not certain of the years of production, but I believe they began in the 1930s and went through to the 50s.

Don't trust item descriptions if you're buying online from a stranger. Find out what the razor's supposed to look like and make sure you get a clear picture of what you're buying. There are a lot of sellers out there who use the terms (mint President, etc...) in order to sell a common razor at a marked up price.

  4. Hi Bob,

You might check the Classified section of the various forums. Find the types for sale that interest you, and follow the thread. You'll not only see many pics, but often times members will comment on how those types work for them. Between the two, you should get a good handle on the different models out there, and also what to expect as far as price and performance. Heh, it's kind of a deep rabbit hole.

it would help if you would tell us a little about why you want to know. Ex: if you want to get into collecting then the previous advice is helpful, but it's a bit much if you just got into DE shaving and you're looking for a razor to start with.

Personally I am pretty hazzy on this issue myself but perhaps if bob asked some questions others more knowledgable, like mike+ could fill him in on the story on thse razors.
