I was checking out the RazorMeeting (http://www.razormeeting.com) that will be held in West Chester OH in Oct. I thought it would be cool to go and check it out. It would be a bunch of driving over a long weekend but time away with the wife and all that.... I noticed on the website that there was a $69.95 registration fee. I also thought that couldn't be the cost of just going in and looking around. WRONG!!!! I contacted one of the folks listed on the website and was told, politely I might add, that this was a gathering of serious collectors and that was the price regardless if you were going to be there a couple of hours or the whole time or if you were a collector or casual observer. I realize that it's not my show and "they" can run it any way they want but that just doesn't seem right. And it's counter productive to the DE movement as it were. Why couldn't there be a nominal fee to allow the public to view such an event? I don't get it
I don't know the people organizing this event. In fact, this is the first I've heard of it. They need a better business model. Successful vintage pen shows would be a good place to start looking. They'll go bust if they charge $70/head for everyone. I wonder what they're charging the vendors?
69.95! To look! :shocked003 That's nuts! A nominal admission fee would be expected and customary, but 69.95 is over the top, serious collector or not, IMO.
If this is the same one, I think these folks have been meeting for over 10 years. They were the original razor collectors before these shave forums.
It should include all your meals and a lap dance. Apparently they arent looking for the general public to join in.
Yes I believe it does cover meals and some raffles - I think I want to look at that brochure again Here we go So I guess there is no option for free entry to just look at stuff and not eat
That's more like it then. This is the vendor cost and everyone's a vendor. It's a communal gathering of old friends/traders/collectors and they're sharing the cost. Makes more sense now.
makes sense in a way; however, I wish there was something like that the rest of us could easily attend. Until then, I will just prowl the forums.
The web site explains what the fee covers. And you have to figure in that the cost of the space to meet in is substantial as well. If you think that the fee is a deterrent, then think again. The size of the annual gathering has been growing.
although that's high it makes sense, just like convention admission only this includes meals and free coffee, I can't see the problem with that.
I asked about this last year, it seems as if there's no free public camping nearby either. Better add a hotel room for a few days to that total + travel expenses.
Well, I guess I just wanted to whine and complain and now that's off my chest. But it would be nice to have such an event open to the public at a nominal cost. Oh well
That is pretty reasonable compared to some of the ones I have gone to. Non-razor conferences/conventions I mean. The last international statistics conference I attended cost around 1.5K, and that was just to register! It is almost like the less interesting something is, the more you are charged :happy102 Jimbo's law of convention fees: The cost of registration is inversely proportional to the amount of interest the convention generates! heheh - I need more coffee...
