Hot shower (after cross country skiing) "Mystery brush" (from the 1950's, given to me by friends dad-no writing on it) Master Shaving Soap German Mug from 1910 Dorco 301 (day 1 and first time trying it) Gillette SS Red Tip Thayers Unscented Witch Hazel TSD Iced Subzero milk (with extra menthol) My second ever BBS shave! Dorco blade? intense exercise before shave? Just dumb luck? I just discovered Grandpa's Shave Friday this week, great concept! I may not always get a chance to post it but I plan on honoring it. Of my 13 razors only one is not older than I am.
well, if we are talking of my Grandpa before my father was born (1915) then we are definitely talking the INVICTA straight here. Williams puck and best badger. I'm not sure my OS qualifies but I have witch hazel somewhere. I'm already wearing red on Fridays, might as well sign on for this as well (maybe, I actually prefer the DE).
Hot Shower 1908 Gillette Single Ring VDH Boar Brush VDH Deluxe Soap Aqua Velva Classic Oregon Wild Hair Stash Wax
Just saw this post , but fits right in with my Friday rotation. 40's Super Speed (My weekend razor) Tabac Alum topped with Clubman AS
Yeah Man, I want to shave like your Great Grandpa too, or my Dad for that matter (Shick I type), but my Grandpa used Electric...At my age, my '65 Slim doesn't seem old enough...I need atleast something from the '50's...Cool, I've been looking for a reason to get a new old razor ) I want either a '57 like you got or older Super-Speed, pre-rattler...an injector would be cool, but thats what I used in High-school, so that would be more of a me ME razor, than a Grandpa razor...)
Course you know this applies to your tunes aswell....Might I suggest some Miles Davis or maybe a little Thelonius Monk...) PS; Do you really think a 1966 razor is old enough ? I've got a 1965 Slim. but like I replied to Erik, I was afraid it was too new, maybe something from the 50's is more Grandpa... or would that be more Great Grandpa...? What do you think ?
I suppose you have a valid point. My last remaining grandpa died many years before my birth in 1962. Therefore, by definition a 40 year old razor is so, not grandpa. Perhaps one of my turn of the century straights or lather catchers would be more what the Dr. ordered. As for tunes, I'm set. My MP3 is nothing if not eclectic. I have lots of big band stuff (Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Gene Krupa) and if I'm in an old school jazz mood there's plenty of Miles, John Coltraine, BB King, John Lee Hooker, etc. If all else fails I'm prepared to go MAD old school with Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart. I can do opera but am completely disinclined to do so first thing in the morning. Andres Segovia or Julian Bream are good choices too. Believe it or not, Led Zeppellin, Stevey Ray Vaughn, Creedence Clearwater Revival, AC/DC, the Doors, Jimi Hendrix, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Smokey Robinson, Otis Redding, The Temptations, Lynrd Skynrd, The Allman Brothers, .38 Special, Marshall Tucker, the Outlaws, and Charlie Daniels all live on this MP3 as well. And that doesn't even include my Pothead Acoustic (CSN, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver, etc.) and Bob and Buffett (Bob Marley and Jimmy Buffett) playlists.
I'm thinking of using a Trac II. O.K, so it's not exactly 40 years old but it's at least over 30. Williams Mug Soap, Omega Boar Brush, Aqua Velva Aftershave.
My Grandpa was still around...I guess thats all that matters...although the judges might have to rule on the Trac II...) Actually my Grandpa was still around in the late 80's so I guess at that time he would have thought my 65' Slim was too old...He always considered himself a modern kind of guy... There you go...I don't think there's a judge around that would rule against 1OLDGI's 1966 Slim...the Slims a definite keeper...I'm old enough to have a grand kid shaving and I used a Slim in the 60's...Case closed....Also Jeff's Porasso is definately a keeper...not a judge in the world would take a dim view of that cream...So we doing this thing or not ?????
The original post is from July 2009, Grandpa Shave Friday (for those wishing to partake) has been in place since then.
Tomorrows shave is to celebrate the birth of my grandson earlier this week. 40 SS VDH from my grandfather's monogrammed shave mug from 1930ish Clubman My he become a loyal wet shaver when the time comes.
Not a Grandpa...but gettin closer. Though I am old school, so pretty much every day is a "Grandpa Shave Day" for me...
Although I do not posses any products that would fall under the requirements for grandpa shave Friday, I would still like to participate in memory of my grandfather who passed away a few years ago on my 20th birthday. While it sucks that he's gone I know he lived a wondeful life, having lived to passed 100. I wish I knew what he shave with tho.
Hey, wait just a hold on. I always thought about this in terms of my Grandpa but you know what I AM a Grandpa so by definition every day is Grandpa shave day for me.
Obligatory Lather Catcher Porn: Shaved with it just this morning. You just can't beat one of these with a fresh Gem SE blade!
