For months I have wanted to try my hand at making a shaving brush on a lathe. I found a cheap used Dremel mini lathe. I was hoping to make a handle without laying out a lot of money for a very good mini lathe. I made my first handle somewhat based on the look of a 1305 Semoque handle (See second picture). Its made from a White polyester pearl rod The pictures do not capture how the mother of pearl acrylic handle shimmers in the light when you turn it. I mailed that one to my friend Teiste. It's now winging its way either by plane or cargo ship to the Canary Islands. When it came time to start my second handle, I decided to go full out since the boar knot I ordered was not 100% to my satisfaction. Also I had put a few chips in the paint of the 1305, and therefore it was time to give the knot a new home. I was also able to transfer the decal. I now have a full custom 1305 Semoque with my favorite handle and favorite boar knot. Hopefully, I captured the spirit and look of the original.

WELL DONE SIR and Ill let you know when I get it.Its just a beauty of a brush!!!Thank for bringing a smile to my face on this difficult time that Im going through THANK YOU SO MUCH
Polyester rod is easy to work with Is does seem to be easy to work with. Take your time with sharp tools and small cuts. The shavings and cuttings do not float in the air like wood dust which I appreciate. You really need a good exhaust system with wood and you need a much better lathe than I have. I have not turned any hard exotic woods but the polyester seems to be easy to cut. When I finished the cutting, I just hold a cloth with some very fine polishing compound on the piece. Its just great to watch the shine come through and end up with a mirror like finish. See picture with unpolished pearl rod.
Sweet Brush! I think you could easily sell a dozen or two of those bushes here. If you were so inclined. I would be first in line.
