Being practical, you'd want to standardize to something like 3 heads and 3 handles. The 6 pieces could be sold as a large kit, or individual pieces could be sold separately. I like it.

I do think this is an excellent idea.. to break it down...
If you are selling it as a kit, you could just sell 8 pieces. 2 extra options for deluxe kits...

    1. handle A
    2. handle B
    3. handle C
    4. Slant cap
    5. slant bottom plate
    6. safety bar bottom plate
    7. open comb bottom plate'
    8. Cap for safety bar/open comb
    9. optional Shave King style cap [teeth on the cap to retain water]
    10. optional open comb bottom plate for the slant

Give me a head that shaves like a Gillette Old STyle, a nice short to medium, HEFTY handle, and i'm pretty happy.

As for stainless or plated, I like the idea of a stainless. but plating could just be another option.

QUESTION: Do you treat your stainless with Oxcilic Acid (SP?). My understanding is that it is this treatment that gives stainless its properties. Many home brewers are advised to clean theri stainless brew pots with Barkeeper's Friend, and air dry. Barkeepers has Oxcilic Acid and it combi9ned with air drying produces a thin chemical layer that makes stainless steal, "stainless" steal.

    Thanks,

    Moe

In a previous message Greg said he could finish the razor in gold(5 micron) or silver. I have an iKon gripper handle that is 100% stainless polished to look like chrome. There are many options

That is a nice shaver; but it doesn't qualify for the OP.

Looking over the dream set, I realize that I have been helping come up with a razor set that would be beyond my purchasing power. I would need to be able to purchase piecemeal fashion as well.

I like the tech style look you showed, looks like it would provide for a nice grip.

Piecemeal would be nice for a set like that. As much as that big set would be wonderful for many people, for me, personally, I'd only want a few pieces, perhaps not even half. I think the Shave King head and the open comb base and a handle would do it for me. The closed bar base wouldn't interest me, and I'm give or take on the slant. But that's just me. I think having all the options available would be excellent for expanding interest among people looking for something different.

I like all the ideas so far. I wonder if you could design a Progress type adjustable with an interchangeable guard. Adjustability is a must for me.

Also very early in my collecting, I got a razor with the comb guard on the cap. I wonder if that would make providing interchangeable guards easier.

It was described as an ASR. It had a Gillette Tech handle. The head had a very narrow base plate that was stamped out a thin sheet of metal. The cap was much wider with the comb guard. Yes, the comb was on the cap! The head was quite curved and the blade I put in snapped when I tightened it down. I don't think I actually shaved with it. The curvature may have been designed to provide some degree of adjustment. I suspect the handle wasn't the original. I'll have to dig it out and give it go!

I like the idea of the open comb.If it had a 3 inch handle and the total weight of the razor is 3 ozs. that would make the perfect razor.A handle that has a good grip is also important.Stainless is a fine finish too

This is my iKon razor which I got several months ago.
Its open comb(12 teeth) weighs 3.3 oz and the handle is basically slip proof.
The length is 4" and the shave is semi aggressive however after 3 passes there is nothing left. The heavy weight is because its solid stainless steel and the pins that hold the blade are meaty which means no blade movement.

I like the idea of open comb on one side and straight bar on the other. I also enjoy the twist-top open of my superspeeds. If you really wanted to be innovative though, what I'd like to see in a razor is an adjustable balance.

Is the total weight 3.3ozs.,or just the handle alone?

    Just out of curiosity..

Why do most razors have the smooth, tapered hourglass shaped part where the handle meets the head? Is it tradition, do some people hold the razor there, is there another reason?
