+1 On VDH soaps. Consistently great shaves. The Glycerin variant is a bit slicker but Deluxe or Glycerin are both great. Do yourself a favor and try out some TSD soaps. Joanna makes some amazing stuff; the quality of her products far exceed the price and I'd easily put any of her soaps up against fancy stuff at triple the price. As per original post, TSD Magnolia is amazing as is Coconut Lime Verbena. For an incomparable menthol blast Iced Subzero is definitely best in class. Not sure what the Fall/Winter will bring soap wise but TSD Blue Juniper, Peach, and one of her rose soaps to be determined will undoubtedly figure prominently. I also must break down and find out if MWF is up to all the hype, ditto Tabac

Mike PM me your address and I will send a couple to you. A store here just stocked a new shipment and I grabbed a few.

Dewaine, I love Omega Bowls too; but, hard creams, they're not shaving soaps.

If you look at the ingredients stack, you'll see no soap cited.

Teiste, all the MWF love confuses me too. Unspectacular soap with a banal scent.

My current favorite is De Vergulde Hand.

Whoever hasn't tried it really ought to; it'll blow your mind.

Close seconds: GFT's Rose, Wild Fern, Almond & Limes; Arko Stick, Tabac Stick or Puck.

Okay. But, on the lid it says, "Shaving Soap." So you can imagine the confusion..

    I will probably need counseling.

Thanks, Bong! Pretty sure I see the making of soap in that list. Potassium Hydroxide and Sodium Hydroxide. Better known as Potash and Lye. Both major players in soapmaking.

See, creams are based on soap. Just usually have extra ingredients; sometimes just water, sometimes more. Cream is still soap.

The consistency of a product doesn't necessarily qualify the product as one or the other. Take Castle Forbes for example. Their shave creams have a much more soap like consistency than cream consistency. Yet they call it a cream.

:signs080 Lye is NaOH? no wonder it burned Tyler Durden's hand on "Fight Club"

    Back to your original programming..............
Thank you for the mini soapmaking lesson from a soapmaker's point of view, JoAnna.

It's just accumulated knowledge. I don't mess with Lye or Potash, since I have a 5 year old on the floor. Out of my comfort zone for now. My soaps are melt and pour based.

Omega's SC in a tube also says shaving soap on it...

So, let's go by Omega's labeling and call every shaving cream a soap.
