Well, I had my worst cut about 11 days ago. It was a normal Sunday morning and I was shaving my mustache. For some unkown reason I took a longer stroke than normal and the razor (HD loaded with a fresh Feather) went over my upper lip instead of stopping just short of it. I felt something grab and then tasted blood. It was a parallel cut that went from the top of my lip to nearly inside my mouth. The only way I could stop the bleeding was to cut up a bandaid (a couple actually) to fit over half of my lip. I had to use two of the custom bandaids before it finally stopped.
My first two shaves with a DE. I cut myself on the left side, just below my sideburn. The first time, it was not too bad. I gave it a rest for a day and it appeared that it was all healed. This was on a 1 setting with a Merkur Futur. The next shave, , I thought I had it on the aggressive setting and turned it up to 6 . I moved the razor less than 1" down my cheek and hit the same spot. It did not stop bleeding for 2 days, no joke. I have been fortunate enough since then not to have any more of those mishaps.
My worst shaving cut was a few months into learning to straight shave - I gave myself a nasty cut about 1.5 inches long across the top of my cheek. I was lucky I didn't get a scar. Still straight shaving though, and love it!
Haha, earlier this week while stropping a straight (I just started a week ago) I gave myself a nice deep cut into the ball of my thumb.
That poor razor! It will need some serious honing after an incident like that. sad024 Guy must of did something horrible for you to treat a fine instrument like that
he had restless lip syndome and couldn't keep his trap shut and something he shouldn't of to the po po nah blade is fine
...no real bad facial slices, but went to grab another razor last night and accidentally grabbed the business end of a SE blade inserted into a Gem. OUch! My thumb bled for 3 hours...
Right along my lip on the right side, with a double edged blade. Part of the reason I grew a beard. Irony is that I still have to shave my neck, the hardest part I had to shave.
My worst cut to date when I decided in my infinite wisdom that I was going to give Straights a try. Let just say that they are not my cup of tea. i had that angle all wrong. Cut myself right on the adams apple. Bleed forever! ouch!
Before I switched to a DE I use to shave my head with the Head Blade with a Sensor cartridge, one day I was getting to cocky and shaving fast when the razor did a nose over and carved a dime sized hunk of meat out of the back of my head. Bleed like a SOB and couldn't shave my head for a week.
I've been pretty lucky since I picked up the DE, a few little bleeders from razor burn on the throat. But, with a mach 3 I somehow moved my razor and face at the right/wrong time and had 3 perfectly space slices on my cheek. It bled pretty good but wasn't too painful. When I was younger I'd go to an old barber who would use a straight to finish my sideburns and he would consistently slice the bottom of my ear. I no longer go to him.
Hiya, Well, it's sorta funny, but my two worst cuts happened within the last 3 weeks or so. Before that I'd have the rare weeper or something a little worse, but that was few and far between. I use a stypic pencil maybe 4-5 times a year when cold water won't quite do the job, and I'll use aggressive razors with no problem. I don't like em much, but I can shave fine with those. So about three weeks ago I'm using my fatboy(favorite razor)...one I've shaved with hundreds of times by now. No idea what the blade was, but I know it wasn't a Feather(lucky). I'm about to start on my second left side pass which is AGT(right side second pass is XTG....weird eh?) I've got the razor upside down and I'm moving my arm to the left side, and I'll be damned if I didn't slide the silly thing across my chin. Yep, totally my fault......just not paying attention. I had zero time to react, and found myself with a nice one inch long horizontal red line centered just above my chin. It wasn't a very deep slice....the blade must have barely touched my face, but it took three days to go away. The pencil did a good job of closing it up enough to stop bleeding quickly. Oh, I may not have posted that in my SOTD.......heh. Last week I took two small but meaningful divots(both at the same time) out of a place on my face that I NEVER cut myself...not even a tiny bit. Using a somewhat aggressive and strange head razor was what nailed me good. Heh, actually, it was my fault again, since I've used the razor many times with good results. Although, I still can't quite figure out how this worst cut ever happened. I guess I screwed up the angle or something. When I saw the blood dripping into the sink, I knew the time had come to finally break out the 'My Nick is Sealed" that Michael(Lguy) likes so much. Yeah, I'd bought this a while back and never had to use it till last week. Heh, a lot different than the pencil, and pretty darn effective. It's a roll on liquid, which is a nice feature. Stings as much or worse than the styptic, and smells very medicinal. This is nature's way of telling you not to cut yourself. Ok, that's it for me, Martin
My worst shaving cut ever was when I was a teenager. It was back when Gillette was really starting to push that gel in a can stuff. There was a TV commercial for it where a guy was shaving and he swiped the razor across his jawline very quickly and underneath the foam his face was blue (because it soothes!) complete with a shooom! sound effect. Yeah, well I decided I want to try that. I got pretty much the same result. Except, instead of being blue under the foam, my face was red because I had whacked a chunk about the size of the nail on my pinky finger out of my jawline. And the shooom! sound effect was replaced with me screaming like a little girl. Man, my friends made fun of me for weeks!
My worst cut was quite recent......and it happened when I was using a straight, however it was caused by me. I've only started using straights relatively recently ( a matter of a few months). I almost always pay close attention to what I'm doing. The penalty for being careless with a straight has always been apparent to me. Usually, if I'm distracted or shaky, I'll stop shaving and finish off with a DE. It was a few weeks ago when I had been thinking about a problem at work while I was showering. After the shower, I was starting my first pass (WTG) using a nice large W&B full hollow ground razor that has a square point. I had just started shaving my cheeks (the easy area) and my mind went back to the problem I was tackling mentally and I stopped consciously paying attention to the razor; the tip of the blade angled into my cheek and as I started the stroke it sliced easily into my cheek. Before I knew what had happened, I had a 1 inch cut on my cheek. Most of it was shallow, but about a centimeter was deeper. It bled quite a bit. It was my day off, so I didn't have to worry about showing up at work like that. It stopped bleeding very quickly, and most of it disappeared eventually without a scar, but I still have just less than a cm of impressive scar. Of course, my cover story is a lot more macho than what actually happened.
I have a small mole right above my lip, raised up just a little. I finally received my Bic razor blades(did okay on the regular shave) and was trying to do some touch up, BING! sliced it. It bleed for about an hour. Jason
