Did not know where to put this, as I get the same with both the cream and the shave stick. By now I am almost certain that I get a "tingling" feeling, like little needles puncturing the skin, everytime I use La Toja (except the Sensitive skin version), which is stronger when using the shave stick, it is not unbearable, but I do not think I will be using it much, as there are other creams/soaps out there. It is s pity, is a great cream, I guess is caused by the mineral salts in it, and is also very cheap around here!! Anyone with the same "problem"? I know is not sold outside Spain, but many of you have tried it from one source or another.... Regards Carlos
I will have to see if I get the same thing as I have the stick and both creams. I do get a sensation from another cream that contains borax.
That’s unfortunate. Never experienced that… not with the regular cream (one of my favorites) nor with the stick..
No you're not alone. I get it with the stick, but the sensitive cream is fine for me. I haven't tried the regular cream. I plan to give a few more tries to see if it's a cummlative thing, or if I get it on the first shave (it's been a while since I last used it). I also get it to a lesser degree with Tabac/Moos, but I have to use it several days in a row. So I save those for special shaves.
I've had exactly the same reaction to the La Toja stick a burning sensation. I sold my shave stick along with a Palmolive stick that did the same thing. I still use other shave sticks - Irisch Moos, Erasmic, Wilkinsons, and Speick. I have no problems with those.
I haven't used la toja but I thought one of the ingredients was menthol could this be the stinging your experiencing I remember the first time I used C.O. Bigelow I thought I was having an allergic reaction :happy102
Does its has coconut acid is its formulation? The new ones have coconut oil and it could be the reason of that tingling sensation while the old ones didnt have it.
Very old thread I know but thought I'd resurrect it. La Toja was my favourite shave soap for years. I never had a problem with it. I stopped using it for several months because I was enjoying a variety of other soaps. Since coming back to it I have felt the sting; to the point where I don't want to use it anymore, which is a shame because it's still one of, if not the very best soap I've tried in every other respect.
I bought a stick of LaToja about 6-weeks ago and I've used it several times with great results! With my Vie-Long 12705 horse hair, it produced a very nice lather, with good cushion and slickness. Paired it with my Gillette Slim on 5 with a Sharp Edge blade. Excellent shave!
I think its a chemical reaction to the soap. The soap in stick form was an odd experience for me. Once the scent from the scented pamphlet wore off, the scent got annoying and migraine inducing. the soap started being itchy. The lather wasn't any better or worse then erasmic, so it wasn't much to really say I loved it. But when I started using it in my shower, the lather was mediocre, but once I woreabout a 1/8 to 1/4 thickness down around it diameter wise, the lather got really really great. thick cushiony real slimey. but oddly the soap would give off an ammonia smell. and really start to burn my skin.
