Before You Even Consider Replating

Like many folks I had some old razors that Scrubbing Bubbles just wasn't doing it for. Sure the SB cleaned them just fine but there was oxidation and other metal type stuff going on that made some my my razors just look really cruddy. Then it was one of those right place right time moments. Today I was in Walmart and remembered a product called Never Dull which I had used extensively in the military and wanted to try on some of my tarnished nasty old razors. I purchase some and brought it home and the results were amazing. This stuff comes in a can and looks like a can of cotton/fiberglass insolation that is soaked in metal cleaning stuff. You simply pull off a chunk of the fuzzy stuff, apply it to rat nasty razor, buff with paper towel and rinse with hot water. The results are truly amazing. I'll try to get some before and after pictures of my 1908 Single Ring up as soon as I can but I wouldn't send a razor off to get replated until I tried a treatment with Never Dull. My Single Ring looks like it's brand new. No oxidation, no discoloration the results were absolutely amazing.

MAAS metal polish is also good.

sol92258 I have no earthly idea

MAAS is good for polishing, but Nevr-Dull has literally saved several razors for me, it cleans gunk off you didn't even know was there!
The one-two punch of Nevr-Dull and MAAS really shines a razor up.
They should be required ordnance for the traditional wet-shaver who gets his shaving gear from antique stores and flea markets :D

Don't know about Nevr-Dull, but I use Flitz Polish for my outdoor knives and axes.

Works great as well when oxidized or rusted

Anyone ever tried "A-OK Metal Polish"? Heard it works well on nickel plate.

Also, be be very, very careful of using any polish on gold plate, particularly on Gillette razors' notoriously thin plating, and I would recommend never polishing any razor that still retains laquer on the finish.

    Hi 1OldGI,

I just wanted to thank you for the heads-up on Nevr-Dull. After reading what you posted I saw it in a Wal-Mart in New Jersey while visiting family, and decided to purchase it. I tried it out on the Gillette NEW I use for travel and, even though the razor was clean, was absolutely amazed and happy with the results. Now, one of my favorite razors looks almost new.

I hope you don't mind me adding a warning, though. Because so many people here have very young, and possibly curious, children I just want them to know a few things about the product. One, it is poisonous, two it is flammable (both of which are mentioned on the side of the can), and three it comes in a shiny silver can that is just the right size to attract youngsters. Please keep these things in mind when deciding where you'll store it if you decide to give it a try.

Again, I was very happy with the results on the one razor I tried it on and thank you. :happy088

Good to know. I was looking at a can of that 3 or 4 days ago but was leery to try it till I had someone more experienced mention it.

I'll be pick'n up some my next go round.

I bought some of this stuff at Walmart this past weekend and it did work great. I used scrubbing bubbles first and what didn't come off, I used some of the Never Dull and it took the remaining gunk off.

By the way, at my Walmart it was located in the automotive section by the car wax.

    thanks again!!
